Soon... Soooooooon
I just found this forum looking for info about starting cycling. This looks like a FANTASTIC resource, and I'm glad it's around. I took my 2 ancient bicycles to a local bike shop and was told they were a very bad investment to get repaired. While garaged a shelf was pushed into them and both back wheels were turned into tacos. The folks at the shop seem pretty trustworthy, so I'll take them at their word. Once I save up enough money for bikes for my wife and I, I can see I'll be spending a lot of time checking out all of the info here.
I'm a big fat guy (310 lbs and I'm only 5'10) so I'll probably be spending a lot of time at Shelby Park in Cordova, TN which has a great track around a small lake, plus a bunch of trails all around.
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to introduce myself! Take care, All!

I got here by way of a web story about Scott Cutshall, which got me to reading the Clydesdales and Athenas section. I'd never heard those terms before, but I like 'em!

Welcome. We’ve all pretty much had the same experience - took old bikes in to the local shop for maintenance and repair, only to find it’s not worth it. You’ll be so surprised with all the improvements over the years.

I thought I'd found great bikes for my wife and I 2nd hand and ended up they were too tall. I'm still out looking, though. Bummed about missing out on those bikes, but I at least know enough that crossbars are not meant to be worn!
