Reach the Beach

I just signed up for the American Lung Association of Oregon's Reach the Beach ride in May.
Is any one else doing this?

I'll also be riding Reach the Beach this year, leaving from Portland (Beaverton). Haven't signed up yet but I will.

Sure thinking about it as my first century. Only the fundraising holds me back. It is for a good cause, and I don't mind paying for a supported event, but I hate hitting my friends and coworkers up for money. Still, I will probaby do it, even if I end up just donating enough to cover the minimum.

I did it last year from Portland and it was fun. Was my first century and was planning on riding unsupported back to PDX the next day, but it kicked my butt way too bad for that. Haha, so I caught a last minute bus back to home that night.

Im considering going again this year. If I do I will bag check absolutely everything I can, will leave right as it starts and only want to stop half way (I think stopping a lot fatigues you more than just keep on riding).

As far as fund raising goes, this has an affordable goal. They only want a mininum of $50. So $25 for early registration, $50 fundraising and $40 for the bus back is only $115. Compare that with Summit to Surf or a Livestrong ride.

I'm going to ride over, my wife will meet me there, and then we are going to spend the night at a friend's place and come home the next day. So it's only costing me the 25 buck entry fee (I've got supporters) and her gas.

I am also planning to do this ride again this year. It will be my fourth. I still prefer Summit to Surf, something about the route is amazing. I think we will be on a family vacation for LiveStrong this year but I think I will fundraise anyway and do a century on my own - or with others

Might do it.....usually do...may start at grande ronde with the kid though. Summit to Surf is far and away my favorite ride of the year. Though if I don't get my butt in gear, the climb to timberline is going to be murder.

I'm still considering it. I have some scheduling (w/my kiddos/family) to work out. Maybe. Definite maybe.

I'm going to be working my way up to a century this year and would love to do that one, except that I'm already going to be somewhere else that weekend. If I did it, I would have my wife meet me in Pacific City and we would stay at the Sandlake Country Inn and make a nice romantic weekend of it. We've stayed there a few times and love the place.
