Studs wearing through tire casing - any thoughts?

Hello all,

I have a three year old pair of Nokian Haka W106 tires 700X35. Last winter a single stud worked its way through the casing and gave me a flat. I assumed it would not be a problem to line the tire with slime tire liners and run them agian this winter but after only 100 miles double flat this morning. Front tire had tube all bound up rear had small hole at the edge of the tire liner likely from it moving around. I hate to spend the 90$ to replace tires that otherwise are real nice. Any thoughts? If the answer is replace them any thoughts on the Schwalbe studded tire? What type of mileage are people getting on these? Just for reference I doubt the Nokians have 2000 miles on them.

Thanks,

Scott

You could try lining the inside of your tire with the outer half of an old tube. I know that's what some DIYs do to protect their tubes in their homemade studded tires.
