Kind of an odd finish, but I really don't see what was so special about it. Van der Poel was having a really good day, never slowed down, ignored tactics, timed everything perfectly (with quite a bit of luck involved) and just went for it without any hesitation. I think the timing of his efforts was eerily perfect, and he was really strong, but I'm just not seeing much other than that. I thought that's how every contested sprint finish plays out.

Congratulations to Fuglsang for his "solo" win today. His team sacrificed themselves unselfishly throughout to get him in position at the bottom of the crucial climb. Alaphilippe's team did the same for him, but he wasn't able to finish it off.

Yup. Let's hope he'll bless us with his insight all season long. Can't wait for this commentary through the grand tours.

Brevity is good. I missed what led up to the final sprint, just saw the highlights. What the clip made it look like, was that van der Poel just powered through a bunch of guys who were somewhat hesitating and looking at each other, and not expecting him. Should have watched the whole race.
