under new Trump rules, are there any tariff for personal ebay order from HK/China?

Has anyone ordered anything recently from HK or China and received tariff issues from USPS? Or are the new laws just affect importers?

Entirely depends on what you're ordering. For example if you order a block of aluminum or steel you get dinged 25%. If for example you buy a massive spool of stainless steel wire to make spokes--it is dinged 25%. If for example you buy a bulk set of pre-shaped (elbow, already butted, but no threading) spoke blanks--no tariff.

Some tariffs are on China's side...Some are on US side

I believe $700 is the clip level, meaning anything less is ignored.

Much of the bike industry is lobbying to change the level to 1/10th of that. Further...many shippers wrongly apply tariff codes on shipments anyway (it is especially rampant on EU order that are DHL/UPS/FedEx)

I don't think the tariffs apply to direct sales.

I'm here in the rust belt, and nearby is an old steel mill that has somehow managed to stay open - at least part of it is open. It is providing a decent amount of employment for this area. They make hot-rolled steel from 30-ton slabs shipped from Siberia. Since Trump's policies went into effect, they have been paying $1 million per week in tariffs on this steel, and will probably soon shut down for good and lay off all of the workers. Sigh.

there is indeed much junk in there but 2.00 cork tape is nice. It also has no adhesive which I prefer. There are also excellent dynamo lights cheap. I would buy them from my local bike shops but none of them understand why I want either items. They want to sell to guys who think they are racers instead of people who actually use their bikes as transportation. I hope someday they will come around to the idea that bikes are more than expensive toys.

This.

There are 3 bike shops within riding distance of my house. Two of them cater to Lance Armstrong LARPers. They have all the $900 'racing socks' you could ever want, but rarely have a good pannier bag. That doesn't even count the local REI.

I wouldn't be caught dead in socks that I paid less than $1,500 for because I am a Lance Armstrong wanna be racer guy who thinks "panniers bags" is/are not only redundant, but also only for Freds. I mean, when you have an expensive "toy" like this, built by a passionate, American craftsman in a facility that once housed his parents' carpet cleaning business and comprised of several parts/components made in the U.S., you have to maintain a certain image:

Custom ti. As for the brand, it's visible on the down tube. Look him up if want to know more, but I will say he won best MTB at the NAHBS--twice.

The residual chemical smell gets me high.

Frame designed and built in the U.S. Hubs, headset, bottle cages, stem, seatpost, bars and, I believe, the Cerakote ceramic glaze, made in the U.S.

They do. But it depends on who is the shipper (and if they correctly apply tariff schedules), and the value of the shipment (ATM), and the items purchased.

There's cheap stuff and there's nice stuff. The trick is figuring out which is which before it lands in your lap.
