I'm going to try and take advantage of the year end sales on 2000 bikes. Shops are beginning to discount the 2000s now but I was wondering if I should wait until after Christmas to get the best deal. Opinions? Thanks.

when to buy a year old bike

the time to buy last year's model depends on the size of bike that you need. if you are looking for a 17 - 19 inch frame then chances are that you won't find them now. I'm 6'7" and I know that the Xtra-Large Jekyll is still at my LBS, and the 23 inch Trek is there too. I have incredibly rare sized bikes so my bikes will stick around alot longer then the really common sizes...

does that make sense?

Ride Wide.

Pick up the phone

Call your LBS, and ask when they are going to get there 2001 model bikes in, thats usualy when they really start discounting the older bikes, however im also a taller cyclist (6'5"), and i have had really good luck purchasing last year model bikes in my size in feb / march, just before the summer rush. I guess this could be quite different where you live, if you live in the southern states, or where you have a really mild winter, and alot of people bike year round, you may not have the same kind of discounts / sales as places that have alot of snow, and bike shop traffic really slows down. Good luck, and let us know what you decide to do.
