Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yesterday it hit 106, but it's only the middle of Spring. Right now it's 75F, so it's time to do some yard work, before going on a ride.

It was 106º here yesterday. Today is only forecast for 99º, but we live right up against a foothill, so whatever the weatherman says, add 5º to the high and take 5º off of the low. Today, 103-104º. I feel like Arizona isn't taking it's reputation seriously enough.

Inland SoCal, July 2019, the boardwalk on Huntington and Seal Beaches was 92º. At the Pacific Ocean. But miles 94-140...

Kudos- rule #9 for sure!

I'm picturing the empty water bottles melting in the cages.

In my part of the valley (opposite end from Noodle_Soup) our forecast for today is 104. My part of the valley is less populated (I'm kind of on the frontier of civilization in the valley - if I go west it's more and more heavily populated, if I go east it's essentially open desert), so we have less of the "heat island" effect, and regularly see temps a couple degrees or so lower than downtown Phoenix area.

I'm on the NW side of Phoenix(99th Ave and Beardsley cross streets), about 5 miles to the end of developed land. It's 87F now, and should hit 104F this afternoon.

Well it's 95 F right now where I'm sitting, at least the internet says that's what it is, so it must be true. I'm about to take a short break and go for a ride before it gets any hotter, because I'd rather ride in 95 F than 104 F, and if I don't get out now that's what I'll be doing.

I grew up in Massachusetts, and the distance from me to you here in the PHX valley would be like halfway across the state in MA, but here in AZ it feels much closer, because it's the same valley. Distances are strange here.

It's 98 degrees here now(on my back porch), and I'm also heading out for a couple of hours.
I grew up about 22 miles north of Boston.

About 45 miles northwest myself. Or nearly halfway across the state, LOL.

Yeah, about to hit the road myself, but only for about an hour. I'll try to make it count.

I love those zee cages. I opened this thread just to recommend them lol! Normal bottles come in larger size. I never liked those camelbak bottles. Not the right shape for bottle cages. A proper water bottle has a narrow section at just the right height to snap into the zee cages.

Which larger size bottle would you recommend, that is also insulated?

I just use the basic bike water bottle. I don't know if there's a name for it, just the super common simple ones. The cheap kind most bike shops sell for a few bucks and every roadie or racer uses. I cant seem to find them online for some reason lol. Like the specialized purist bottles but without the fancy cap.

Grew up in Connecticut which is the size of some counties in the west.

It's 63F here in Seattle. That's in the sun.

I really fancy these Silca titanium bottle cages, or the equivalent King Cage version, but I've not yet been able to motivate myself to pull the trigger on a $70 bottle cage. The 20 or 30 grams saved per cage can't justify it, so it would only be a vanity item. I think they would go well with my titanium frame.

So, I keep using my generic alu bottle cages, which work fine but don't fully match the bike, and periodically look at these Ti cages again, wondering if desire to own them overpowers my reasoning faculties and I give in to my baser instincts and just go for it. So far I've passed through that crucible of willpower with my wallet intact. I keep going back, though, so one day my iron discipline may crack, and Silca may take $70 off me to replace what $5 has served me well with so far.

Definitely don't care about any weight savings on the bottle cage. For me, its about functionality and then style.

It didn't get that warm today.

Only 105 or so. It was warmer 3ft above the pavement, but it was dry today.

I'm gonna try out the Polar Breakaway bottles and see if they fit any better than my Camelbak Podiums.

My Polar Bottles arrived. They're very close in size to my Camelbak bottles. Will give them a try to see if they navigate the Zee cage any better.
