Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Yeah. I was thinking about a Shimano SS MTB with an integrated guard before. But Profile is making their fixed gear cranks. So I dunno... I like the q-factor in the Sugino 75s. I just don't wanna snap those.

riding w/your hands that close to the stem constricts the chest, and thus the chest cavity, and thus inhibits proper breathing-which is essential to cycling. this isn't theory. there is no debate. small levers like that, mounted so close to the stem are not ideal for control at speed either.

as far as that broken crank-PROLLY-Mighty putty will work fine, just follow up the application w/fiberglass, then wire, then duct tape. problem solved.

Here she is. I'm still waiting on spokes to build the real fixed/free wheel set so I had to throw my front road wheel on there to use with the fender because it was raining. She was my first total build, paint, etc. She's not glamorous but she gets me to work, the bar, and out on the town. I'll post an update when I build the wheels. I realized after the paint job that it's very EZLN-esque. Whoops. Zapata Vive!

dunno if you were just on the express way or what but the lakes and parks are jammed with them. the suburbs, esp. northern ones have even more.

I was being sarcastic, I was the one saying he shouldn't be riding that close to the stem to begin with.

Did I really need to specify that there are no good reasons to mount it that way? Are you that pedantic?

Pardon my french, but that's ****ing stupid.

By that logic you could have just as easily said "if the rider in question has grown weary of life and wants to die on his bicycle that is one reason to mount the lever that way therefore what you said is false QED hurf durf."

Sure it's a bad reason, but you didn't specify it had to be a good reason. Hehe I'm so clever!

For me, people putting their bikes on car racks and driving to the parks and lakes to ride around in circles doesn't count as much of a cycling scene. I'm more into practical commuting and street riding, which can be very frustrating in D/FW. I think I'll be getting a mountain bike and hitting the trails soon, though. I used to BMX a lot in the 80s and it looks like too much fun.

the lever sticks out 3" from my stem to the right, just like any other leaver. i got so sick of you blowing everything out or proportion i just went and measured, calm the hell down. no one's going to die from riding a lever over their stem, 3/4 people ride with no brakes at all

I wasn't trying to say it was going to kill you, I was using it as an extreme example of a "bad reason" to do something still being a "reason."

Anyway, I can't be bothered with this crap anymore, that Cervelo just gave me a ***** that I gotta go take care of.
