Was traveling for work, took the bike.

I too participated in the local hammer fest yesterday. Turns out a few of the guys were on the podium in various age groups at Masters Nats.

followed up my 3.5hr ride yesterday with another 3ish hrs today, this time with my local group, which is a mix of occasional chatty chill with hammering. yesterday solo was 183tss in 3:32, today was 224tss in 3:11, hopefully these rides are helping me lose some residual pounds before my trip lol

Ideally, I'd hold the wheel of one of the fast riders, but to stay with the first group over the hill, you have to find those 5 guys amongst 100+ riders and hold their wheel up. Those wheels are contested just before the climb. It's annoy af that weekend warrior Bob who always gets dropped 3 minutes in is bumping my handlebar for a wheel he can't hold for 10 seconds. Don't get me wrong, he's got every right to be there, and I was that guy 2 years ago, I just wish people would 'self seed' in group rides. It would probably prevent half the crashes.
In essence sag climbing is starting at the front of the group and ending at the back so you overall have to put out less power to make it over the top. In a big group it means you can climb short hills much, much slower than everyone else and put out less effort to hang. It can also be used on longer climbs at steeper sections where you know you're at a disadvantage. When I would do the Rocket Ride in SEA, I knew if I could make it to the last minute of the first climb (and be towards the front) I would be able to fade pretty far back when those attacks would start to fly.

My training has been interesting. Slept in yesterday with only the plan to do a recovery ride when a buddy messaged me he had crashed his mtb and needed a few days off. So I ended up standing in for him at a videoshoot up at Powder mountain for an upcoming 12hr mtb race. I was outside riding and being a "model?" for the video for like 4.5 hours with only about 2 hours of riding. Still a great time and the video is gonna turn out awesome.

Didn't feel too wrecked this morning so I thought I'd go try a 2x20 workout. NOPE. Body is still pretty tired. Couldn't hold a number I was able to do a week ago for longer than 20 minutes and it sure hurt. So I rode around pretty easy for the rest of the ride and I'll give it a bit before I try that workout again.

Okay, that's usually what I try to do, rail the corner into the climb, be one of the first guys up and hold wheels for as long as I can.

Playing with a new position on my tt bike. Flipped my bars to get an ALMOST praying mantis position. Totally not a legal position, but just trying it out. So about 1.5 hours easy while watching pro-nats and f1. Two girls I raced collegiate against (they would jump into the Men's A frequently) were in the race long break that got caught about 4 miles from the finish. It was exciting enough that when I messaged my parents they even tuned in since they know these girls. Didn't play out for them, but hey, what an exciting day for two fresh-faced pro women to ride in the break like that!

Kind of "training" lately. Been feeling like crap more often than not. Not sure whats going on. Have 2 crits coming up which will be effing hilarious. Pre regged for them earlier this year when I thought I might actually be able to salvage something from the season, so I may as well and do them...

Started running again because my riding and racing have been so terrible.

signs of a lot of training: spending 2:45 doing endurance for 110tss and have your tsb trend positive lol 817tss last week figured I'd load up because I may only get 3 days in this week (leaving Friday evening for our overseas trip, probably won't get to do any riding until Monday)

This is getting ridiculous. I've been sweating a bunch during rides due to high heat and humidity, but that's normal. I did an hour recovery ride this morning (IF was .46) and my jersey and gloves were sweat-soaked. I'm only getting about three rides from a pair of gloves before they stink too bad to use again. I think this is the worst it's been since I moved here in '90.

Rode yesterday after about a week of feeling crappy.
Zero wind but kinda hot.
Average pace on super flat course was 21.1 mph. Never got out of Z3 hr, and barely broke 200W. So, uhh, weird.

A couple of days ago I had the weirdest thing happen. It was only like 65 out so not really hot, but it was also absurdly humid. The combo kept me from being able to sweat and I overheated so bad during a z2 ride that my heart started doing weird **** and I had to soft pedal home! I didn't even realize it was happening until it was too late. Was totally fine yesterday though, just one of those weird things.

Already made the appointment! All signs point to extreme overheating, but definitely playing it safe.

That would make sense, considering its summer in the Northwest and you're a penguin.

I suffered exertion heatstroke during a running race in similar conditions. I didn't really feel hot until right before I got confused and passed out.

Waking up in the back of an ambulance having no memory of how you got there is freaky. It took several hours before some memories came back.

Was going to ride today. Somehow contracted something that made me **** out all the water in my system. So I'm gonna take today off because that seems like a good idea.

Brought my bike with me to northern Minnesota last summer and thought it was really flat there. https://www.strava.com/activities/1101375926

Then I brought my bike to Florida this week. Literally all the elevation is from bridges. https://www.strava.com/activities/1662307782#kudos

"Mellow" 2x20' this morning at 97%. At that point in the season where I'm not gonna push it to the limit if I don't want to.

Also, it's been a while since I've worked out hard like that early on a weekday morning! My M-F hammering for a few weeks has been Track on Tuesday nights and Fiesta Worlds on Thursdays.

Monday, 20" over under and 20' of tempo. Tuesday, I planned on S&A on my TT bike on Fiesta. I arrive at 12:30PM and the wind is blowing. When I get to the windward side of the island, there is blowing sand and dust. I head back to the car and drive home. I change bikes and do 2x10' threshold efforts up Mount Soledad.

I did a Trainerroad ramp test yesterday again. It was 10 watts lower than the last time, which was 10 watts lower than my previous FTP. I've hit the same step each time, so I don't know what the deal is with that stupid test. I'll probably try another protocol next time. I'm keeping the old FTP for now.

When I thought I was getting dinged I started trying to do a mid-season little rebuild - something went wrong as I was putting my shoe on about 2 weeks ago and I felt a painful burning in my heel. Seems I have plantar fasciitis or heel bursitis or achillies tendonitis... or a bone spur. Something is wrong in footville is all I know.
