Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I supported my LBS today

Bought my daughter one of these today at the LBS. It's a Schwinn Midi Corvette. Got a great deal. This is a sweet ride. The picture doesn't do the metallic cherry red paint justice.

Looks really cool. When I was a kid they were trying to get all futuristic with the bikes, now they're going back to the way they should be. Is it weird that I'm a bit jealous of a little girl?

Only if you are not a little girl

OP, nice bike - your daughter will love you for a long time. I was just thinking today about my first bike, a classic Schwinn Stingray, circa 1967. Sissy bar, banana seat, and green like The Hulk.

Her best friend has an original Stingray. Her dad is an avid cyclist...I'm talking about the $6,000 Specialized and a garage full of parts...he ran across the Stingray at a shop in Nevada I think and got it. They go for about $500 on ebay. My daughter is so excited! She and her friend are now "Schwinn-buddies", they made that term up.

Schwinn really has some nice retro-looking cruisers.

Retro-cruisers are cool.

I pulled an old but rideable Schwinn off the curb a few months back and now have a pretty cool bike; springer forks, chrome and etc. Of course my "free project bike" ain't exactly free anymore.

pgjackson it is great to see parents getting their kids bikes. It might just be me but it doesn't seem to be as common as it once was.
