Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Out of garage at 12:29AM yesterday in 81F and high humidity conditions. Was planning on a 75/100 miler but back in garage after 57 miles dripping wet. Relaxed a bit after shower and then back out as the sun was approaching the horizon. Rode 9 miles to the start of our local 2020 Cruzbike 12 mile TT Challenge. Don't have a recumbent so it was on the Roubaix trying my best to hold 20mph AND THANKFULLY the winds stayed down. First 5 mile segment in 14:47 then second 5 miles in 14:37 and was able to kick it up a bit for the finale. A 20.6mph average and with the 10 miles back home got in 88 miles.

It’s dang hot here so had a shorter ride than usual. Left at 7:30 and did 65 miles over to the coast and back. About 5 miles from the ocean it was suddenly much hotter making the last 25 pretty unpleasant.

I did however surpass my mileage total from 2019, which is cool. The pandemic has given me a lot more opportunities to ride.

On Sunday, it started raining outside just as I was about to get dressed to head out for a meet-up and ride. They decided to postpone by 30 minutes to see if it was just a passing shower, but within that time that rain developed into a full-on thunderstorm, so I went back to bed. Later in the evening I fired up The Sufferfest, and on a whim* I decided to do their Half Monty ramp test. +14W FTP, I guess this means future workouts are going to be more painful than before, lol.

* - well, not exactly on a whim. It's been more than 3 months since my last FTP test, and I haven't been training/riding much the past week due to a niggling ankle issue, so by now pretty rested up to take on the test.

Still hot and humid, but I finally feel like I've gotten acclimated. I also got it in my head to take it easier at the beginning of my rides. Tuesday evening rode a bit longer 33 miles around Davis Is. Thursday evening did my usual 27 mile Davis Is. ride. Saturday I went to Weedon Is. and added downtown Tampa on my way back for 41 miles. Sunday I rode to Philippe Park and came home via Courtney Campbell trail for 43 miles Saw some dolphins swimming next to the trail too.
