24" bike for 8 year old boy with at least a coaster (pedal) brake
Our 8 ½ boy is in need of a new bicycle but we are having trouble finding one which fits him. Height-wise, he sizes to a 24” frame (with some room for growth). However, he needs a bike that has a coaster (pedal) brake or both a hand brake and coaster brake. On most 24” frames, the hand brakes are constructed such that his hand cannot fully grasp and engage the hand brake. Any suggested brands/models/stores would be appreciated. Thanks!

You must mean 24" Wheels, at 24" frame is pretty huge.
However, you may just have to take him around to test ride bikes and see what works. Also, as long as the pedal brake is working he should be safe until he grows enough to grasp the hand-brake. Most hand break levers work the same and are about the same size so it might just be something you'll have to work around until he gets bigger.
The other option would be that when you go to your local bike shop maybe you could talk to one of the mechanics and see if there is any way they can modify the bike or if there is an aftermarket part that can make it work.

The OP may be speaking frame size in BMX measurements. A 24" BMX bike the 24" is effective top tube length. Any bike shop should be able to set him up for this need.

I too had this problem earlier in the year. We decided on a Trek youth bike, the MT 220:

It does not have coaster brakes, but since it is cut for a younger individual, the handles are all in the right spot.
It did take a week or so for my son to get a comfortable with the hand brakes, but now he's motoring everywhere.
also this bike can be tweeked as your child gets older, for example it has two sets of holes on the pedal crank.
