Great thread, I always wondered what the history of the Miele bike was and as a Torontonian, I always remember Miele bikes as being a mid to high end model road bike .In HS I had a buddy with a Miele while I had a Peugeot.
They recently re-branded the Miele bike but is it the same?

NO! The new rebranded Miele bicycles have absolutely nothing to do with the Miele bicycles of Jim Miele.

Cheers

PS
Rest assured that, as the only owner of this bike, my intent is for it to be my last bike as I thoroughly enjoy riding it. I'm just so interested to know everything about it and proud to ride a Canadian made bike.
Back around 1984 or so I bought a Miele Primo from Pedlar Bicycles on Avenue road just below Dupont. A bit later I bought a Miele Primo. Both bikes were about $389.00 and were very similar - almost identical in fact except that the Primo had a double crankset and single pivot brakes. I used two Rivniuts to mount a third bottle cage under the downtube.

I liked my Turista a lot and the only thing I didn't care for were the cantilever brake caliper arms that stuck straight out from the frame and sometimes got pressed against the rim by the panniers. That was fairly common thing though back then and Minoura had rear a rack with a section on it that went over the cantilever arms to prevent that.

I now have an old Miele Uno LS (originally red) that I had converted to a touring configuration with cantilever brazeons, brake cable stop, rack mounts and third bottle cage mount (under the downtube) and it looks a lot like a Turista. Either bike is fine for moderate touring loads and distances.

Cheers

From the photos it's hard to say if it's an actual Miele bicycle. Many of the images don't let you see what the component actually is. I think it might be Shimano Exage based on the one image of the front brake caliper.

I don't think the bike is worth the asking price. For that price or for not too much more, a lot of times you can get a much better quality Miele with a Columbus SL frameset.

Cheers

Even if is Miele - too much. Cable routing is horrid, some cables are already fraying at the ends, stem looks to be overextended, frame was repainted or badly touched up and they did not bother to take out lower headset cup (it is painted unless it is by small chance Miele Chic and still has lower cup from Sante group, hard to tell from the pics), seat post binder was replaced with cheap QR, etc
I'd follow MieleMan's leads
If you are not hard set on Miele - not my ad, https://www.kijiji.ca/v-road-bike/ci...ike/1516800563

Thanks for the lead.
I'm not exactly set on Miele but I tested one a while ago and liked it - it was light and nimble.
And being a Toronto kid I like the local Miele connection.

For reference my current ride is a 12-speed department store bike from the 80's (so the bar is pretty low here )
I did try out a Peugeot but found it kind of heavy (smooth but heavy).

How does the motobecane compare?

(1) 62cm is probably too large for me. I'm 5'9"
(2) I like.. might go see it. Is the price fair?
(3) 62cm, again probably too large

I think you need to measure yourself first and determine approximate frame size. I am ~5'10 and comfortable on 54 to 58 cm frames, can make 60-62 work with more of the French fit or shorter stem, etc. My fav size is 56 or so.
The frames you were posting are all on the big size and I think that's what Miele Man had in mind when posting his suggestions.
Once you know the size - just look for the picture of the similar sized bikes and see several in person. While not foolproof method - it will train you to do a ballpark sizing by looking at pic.

Sizing is another can of worms (french fit, eddie fit, etc) and each body is unique but just ballparking for your height - 54-56 is what I would look for.

To help you with sizing - pay attention to reach and effective toptube and keep in mind that most online tools and shop are going for racier fit.
https://www.wrenchscience.com/
https://www.competitivecyclist.com/S...ulatorBike.jsp
https://zinncycles.com/bike-fitting/bicycle-fit-calculator/

If you are looking for more relaxed upright ride - visit rivendell ,
https://www.rivbike.com/pages/bike-fit

And good idea to understand most common measurements for classic frames like Miele

I have measured myself. Inseam is 31”. My current road bike is 23” (58 cm) and it fits well. Straddling the frame, it just barely clears the family jewels.
So I could do 59cm but I think 62cm would make it uncomfortable. Also, I need to avoid a full acute race position due to a herniated disc.

Standover is really minor thing for me but matters to some folks. May be post picture of your current bike and more knowledgeable members can advice on good range, general fit, saddle height, etc.
You may need to budget to taller/shorter stem, short reach handlebar, etc

I purchased a Gara in Washington DC in the mid 80s; rode with a local club, took it to Ecuador and raced it there too. because I am new to the forum I cannot post pictures of it yet.

But Apart from the seat and the clips the components are all original. A little rust on the fork, and some of the stickers have peeled a bit.

I was advised recently to replace/rebuild the rear wheel, as it is badly out of true. What are the odds I can find an Ambrosio Durex rim to maintain the original look?

thanks

Welcome to a Bikeforums. I recently sold a ambrosio durex wheelset for $90. With patience and searching everyday its possible to find a wheel. Better a wheelset if its a good price.

Where u located?

T-Mar. I believe I bought it in Washington DC in between 84-88. the shop and details are alas lost to time.

I still have the National Capital Velo Club sticker on the downtube. Served me well in many amateur races and then accompanied me to Ecuador for a few years.

the rear wheel is badly out of true; I've been advised to look for an ambrsio durex rim to replace/rebuild

If you bought it new, it's definitely not a 1984-1988 model. The Shimano 600 Ultegra which is on the bicycle wasn't introduced until the 1988 model year and that decal scheme that wasn't used by Miele during the 1984-1988 model years. It's a 1989 model at the very earliest, though these would have been available in the autumn of 1988. Serial number?
