Core Workouts

How many of you do core-muscle workouts as a part of your regular training regimen? Just curious.

I'm surprised to see that some only do it a certain parts of the season. When do you do them and why only at that time?

I try to remain consistent. I mainly do deadlifts, pull-up and such. I have a deadlift goal I want to reach in addition to a time trial goal.

You initiate everything from the core. Very important part of the body to keep in shape..all season.

I usually do it in the off season, mostly because I go to the gym then, and not in the season. During the season, I generally have a tough enough time fitting bike time in, so I don't go to the gym, and that leads to forgetting about core workouts. If I rode full time, I'd probably do core workouts all season, but I'd scale it back during the season to give myself some more recovery.

Not having enough time I understand, but I object to your last thought. Core workout time= (or is a possible part of) recovery time.

My best year recently I focused on everything. Blew my FSA on chiro visits, did core exercises, etc. No sore backs ever. Won some key races/things.

First time in about 20 years of racing I did any core exercises. I haven't done them in a while now. My back gets sore about 1.5-2 hours into a hard ride. Or 20 minutes into an insane effort (like trying to stay with the group on a rolling terrain ride on a tandem).

I try to do core work and light weight training all year. I live in FL so there is no "on/off season." But I'm also not the most disciplined.

I'm away from the bike right now but I have access to a bench and weights, so I have been taking advantage. I'm hoping to get back to the bike stronger then when I left it... I think It's working.

My back would consistently tighten up 20 minutes into every ride. I finally started working on my core and its all fixed. Its going to be a year round thing for me now.

My core develops quickly. After a winter's worth of ab work, I have the abs of a WWE wrestler. Its a bit ridiculous. As such, after base ends, so does my core work. It lasts thru the season fine.

I do yoga once a week, which works just about every part of the body (inc core).

I am horrible about doing core exercise or stretching. Need to do A LOT more of both. Will be trying to get in the habit this fall/winter.

I try to do core classes weekly all year, but by mid-summer, it usually dissolves into once a month or not at all.

I badly need to do more core workouts but I've been putting them off. As a consequence of that decision my quest to conquer Bear Mountain in New Jersey during my first attempt at a century was an utter sufferfest!
I only made 85 miles and once I reached the actual mountain I just could not climb it. Heart almost exploded. And my back and neck couldn't take the abuse. I actually had to get off my bike and walk it at certain parts.

Still though, instead of training as I should I've been lazy all summer. Instead of core workouts I've been riding and running instead. Oh well. I'll probably pick it up again during the winter.

that wheel deal works...I also like the "perfect pushup"

I do as many crunches in 2 mins as possble...around 150

I do this twice a day, in the AM and before I go to sleep...as well as pushups.
