Damn that's beautiful! I just bought an MB-6 to use as a gravel cruiser / grocery getter and I kinda want to do something similar. Can you tell me a bit about the upgrade process? What parts did you have to replace to get the modern components to fit? Mine has a full Suntour XCM drivetrain - 7 speed.

Damn that's beautiful! I just bought an MB-6 to use as a gravel cruiser / grocery getter and I kinda want to do something similar. Can you tell me a bit about the upgrade process? What parts did you have to replace to get the modern components to fit? Mine has a full Suntour XCM drivetrain - 7 speed.
Frame paint was pretty beat but the components and bi-plane fork (which I had replaced with a Rock Shox) still looked pretty good. Started off with a complete fame paint strip. Repainted with automotive paint to match the fork. VeloCals supplied the decals and then clear coated over the decals. Waited a couple of weeks and then heli copter taped the usual areas. While I waited I totally disassembled the xt v-brakes, rear derailleur, pedals (now 747) and wheel set. I basically changed the cock pit. Adapted the 1" steer tube to a 1 1/8" via a Profile Design adapter. The XTR rear hub and RD M900 rear derailleur also worked for a 9 speed cassette so that was easy. The front, narrow wide, Race Face chain ring (42) was a direct bolt on to the original XTR cranks. Pretty decent chain line. Micro Shift supplied the 9-speed thumb sifter.
Very happy with how it rides....and looks.
My next project is to do the same to a Ritchey Comp. Same color. Same components.
