Looks like an 89, LX Group, mid range bike. The front brake cable stop is built in to the stem on Diamondbacks of this vintage.
It is a nice looking bike..

I won't buy a Diamondback Mtn. Bike unless it's all aluminum. And, it's priced between $50 to $75. Down here near the sea shore they make good beach cruisers. If they're all aluminum w/alloy parts then you can just hose them down and forget about them.

The DB ascent is a good bike, but it is a common model. Wait for something nicer / more rare to come along, especially at the asking price of $250.

Thank you everyone, but it seems the point is moot; the Diamond Back has found a new home. However, tomorrow my husband and I are going to look at a GT Karakoram in Orange Inferno. It's a sickness, I know.

We didn't get it. It was just too much of a mess; the chainrings were shark toothed, the bottom bracket was loose, the wheels were ultra cheap, and the original freewheel was replaced with a cassette. Or vice versa, I forget. And the sun fading on the paint was too irregular to look cool. It would make a nice project bike, but we have more than enough project bikes.

I recently purchased this cousin to that DB ascent.
Mine is a DB Apex. I absolutely love it. I wouldn't trade it for any other mountain bike.
It was converted to a 1× street bike by the previous owner. I've since changed saddle and raised it a lot.

Both are nice bikes, but the Karakoram has the cool factor edge. Darn shame about that condition and the Heinz 57 components. That orange is especially susceptible to fade.

We probably should have grabbed the Karakoram in Tequila Sunrise that we passed up a few weeks ago. C’est la vie.
