I thought it was weird at first but it works pretty well. That's the VO Tourist bar that sweeps back like 40 degrees not too unlike a lot of swept back mountain bike bars these days. It feels pretty good as a road bike bar and you can corner hard with it! The other bar is an Albatross and it's all cruiser.

BTW, beautiful bikes, you guys, especially impressed by @noglider @randyjawa and @Robofunc.
Thanks. She still loves that bike, only now she's my wife and she hadn't been riding because we have a three month old. She was just saying how she's missing riding it.

Here's my Bianchi Sport SX Road Bike converted into my Urban City bike. It has Thick Slick tires on Velocity Deep V's. The drive train was converted to a Shimano nexus 8 speed internally geared hub. A bunch of Brooks leather goods.

The handle bar position didn't work out too well for me so recently I changed it to a flat bar which completely changes how the bike feels for the better.

(Not having read the whole thread...) Have any of you used the VO "Montmartre" bar? I've noticed that a lot of people use it with a long stem, and an angle parallel to the ground. I was thinking about using one with a short stem, and at an angle pointing more toward the rear axle, in an effort to replicate the riding position of a roadster...has anyone done that before?

Raleigh Marathon (when it was a commuter):

I had a mishap where the derailleur hanger bent, making it useless for that purpose. The frame sat in my garage for a couple years. Finally, I added:

New rear wheel with a Sturmey Archer 2-speed kickback hub
Sprung Brooks saddle
New bow handlebars

And now:

It's a fun little runabout.

Gitane TdF with shortened Albatross bars.

'73 Raleigh Competitiom with Luxe bar and stem from Belgium.

1959 Carlton with overly flexy North road bars from VO.

I also have a Jeunet with Cinelli Priest bars, but I can't find a picture.

I pulled the package out of the garbage bin. I also changed my stem yesterday which required me to retape the bars. This tape is very strong, and I had to stretch it very hard to put it on. I think it's purely synthetic so I expect it to last a good, long time.

Trek 640 with upside down Moustache bars

I bought a pretty nice early 1980s Trek 640 road bike frame (Reynolds' 531 tubing) from a forum member and built it up as my commuter bike. I installed a velo orange threadless stem adapter and threadless stem with a Soma moustache bar but upside down. Added were tektro mtb brake levers and old Suntour friction/index shifters. The Soma bars have mtb diam., unusual for moustache bars. My preferred position is for my hands to be just above seat level, leaning forward, and the bar grip to be oriented fore-aft rather than straight across. The moustache bar upside down gives me all those features. Riding the hoods on drop bars give a similar position but I find quite cold on my hands commuting in a cold Wisconsin winter. I find the ride to be a great combination of comfort and some aggressiveness. The bike is fast and this old guy usually can keep up or pass many younger riders.

1976 Schwinn Superior

Had some braze ons added so I could run my cables properly. Was going to have the whole thing powder coated black, but I decided I liked the junkyard dog look. So I named it J.D.
The fork was painted with chrome tips, but I could see with all the scratches it went all the way up, so I got out the buffer wheel. Also had the B stop on the derailleur hanger fixed to use standard RD. It had 27” wheels so I got some long reach Tektros and went with 700c. Can’t stop riding it.
