Cycling meets photography - when two hobbies collide. (pics inside)
Back in February I decided to pick up a lightly used Canon dSLR camera as another avenue to get myself outside and getting exercise when time/weather/etc didn't allow for a ride. Fast forward a few months and I picked up a 100mm Macro lens for the dSLR and I started setting up detailed shots of just about everything I could get my hands on - including a few parts from the display shelf and a couple of the bikes. A few of the more C&V related results:
I took a bunch more of the Super Record and Cyclone RD's last night, planning to have two new 8x10 prints made from some of them to hang in the bike room, flanking my framed Gazelle poster I got off eBay a year or two back.

Beauty. What camera? What lens? Macro?
I just picked up a 50mm 1.4 for my Nikon. I might have to try some shallow depth of field shots on some of my bikes.

Nice macro shots and some very clean looking parts. I've been merging the two past times as well, though my approach is usually to try and get interesting shots from the group rides and events I participate in.

Camera: Canon Rebel XSi (all but the last shot, which was with my old Canon SD1000)
Lens: 100mm f2.8 Macro (also have the 18-55 kit lens, 55-250mm, and 50mm f1.4)
Going to try to spend the time tonight to process the pics I took last night and get those posted as well.

WOW nice shots.. bikes always make for GREAT still-life subjects as the geometric symmetry of them can be so challenging to capture correctly!
I just started playing with old manual lenses on my Canon t3i.. here was a few shots i did.
There have been some really stunning pics on a few bike blogs i browse.

Awesome pics. I could have the best camera made aand my pics would still suck. I love the close up of the freewheel and chain.

Great pics. I tried sending you a private message, but I don't have 50 posts yet. Can you contact me via this forum? I'd like to talk to you about your photos and some cross-promotion. Thanks.

When I read the title, I thought you'd run over your camera......
I still prefer my Canon SLR to any of my digital cameras, as the learning curve on the really good ones throws me off.

I like classic and vintage things so I still stuck with film photography in the era of digital. Here some pics I took with my old medium format camera while cycling through old citadel in Vietnam. I think it's cycling meet photography.

Very nice all. I currently also have 3 older nikon lenses from my dad's Nikon FTn that I can adapt to my XSi. The 50mm f.14, 135mm f2.8 and a 300mm f4, as well as a doubler. I've been meaning to do a side-by-side comparison of my modern 50 f1.4 vs the early 70's era Nikon glass on the same body. Just haven't picked the right subject that would be good for the comparison.
As far as post-production, I use Lightroom 3.6 right now to do any photo editing needed to bring out the best in each shot. Example, the first two I know have some color cast added to the hightlights/shadows or both to bring out the look I wanted from the photo. I'm not at the main desktop atm so I can't look at the edited raw files to see exactly what each of the above photos got in the way of post work, but needless to say they didn't look quite as dramatic straight from the raw file. Ended up not getting to the new batch of derailleur macros tonight. Work day pretty much wiped me out so been relaxing and trying to decompress with the help of some Maker's Mark whiskey instead.
For those who care to take a gander at more of my work, all of my public albums can be found here: https://picasaweb.google.com/102637182371352471338
I do a lot of nature and landscapes, bikes taking up much of my non-nature oriented subjects. Still trying to figure out how to convince the IRS that what I've spent on camera gear so far this year was for VeloBase.com. Perhaps if some of y'all start sending me some of your spare parts for photographing and cataloging on the site to replace the less than perfect eBay photos I've managed to collect over the years that would fly. There's only so many parts on my display shelf.
Oh, and I'll try to get a photo posted of my new grouping of prints when I get them done. Going to try to get those new photos processed this week and another print order made by week's end. Considered checking if anyone was interested in getting a print of any of the bike/component shots I'd posted or had in my albums, but guess that would be more fitting for a Marketplace thread. Can't be bending the rules as an admin after all.

Very nice work Cuda2K. I've found my favorite combo is my old, 1960's, Nikkor 55 mm "Micro" mounted to my Canon Xti via adapter.
No focusing screen and all auto features lost but, what a sharp old lens. As sharp as my old Nikkor 35 f1.4 or 85 1.4 AiS lenses. Although this is not the greatest example.

rootboy, got to love what old glass can do. I really need to do the 50mm comparison test. Here's an example of what the 135mm f2.8 can do:
Now that I've got the 100mm f2.8 macro I haven't used the 135 much, but still a damned fine lens.

Track's bent. (somebody had to say it)
You folks and your cameras are killing me here. I wore out my old film camera, litterly wore it out. Had others but they just didn't feel the same to me. Currently saving/shopping/angling for a dSLR, in the mean time I'll subscribe to this photo thread too.
