who (literally) has the balls to answer this question?
Sorry to anyone offended by the bluntness, but to be fair, this is the AA of odd bike-related behaviour so my question is:
for you guys that shave your legs... how far up do you go? where do you stop?
To be perfectly honest, i'm not sold on the need to shave my shins, but i'm getting repeat incidences of the 'pinch-flat' of the nether regions, when hair gets between a thigh and the seat or somewhere thereabouts... and YOINK! bloody painful. and this is wearing good bike shorts. So, who has the answer to this predicament? advice, recommendations, warnings... get at me!

Interesting though how you seem to have these "pinch flats" and many other people don't.
Personally I have never had any problems with this and the only thing I ever shaved is my face.

Serious response: You stop somewhere on your thighs. High enough that your bibshorts hide the stopping point.
If you want to go higher, it's going to be for other reasons.

For me: I shaved everything off below the waste once this summer to just see how it is. Did that ever suck! Around the groin area, where your shorts may tend to move around an rub, can possibly make you a bit raw, it did for me at least. Seeing as most of my road rash has been the thighs and below, that is what I shave now. And don't forget your arms. I see so many shave their legs but not their arms, and every one of them that has crashed has had road rash on the arms as well. That defeats their argument of, "It makes cleaning and removing the bandage much easier."

i should add i just use an electric trimmer with no guard. no need to go fully shaved. just get the major fur out of the way and you'll be fine. arms included.

I don't think this means what you think it means.

sent you a PM.
to the OP. manscaping is an art and not a science. sure you can go full brazilian, but there are ethical questions:
after going bald do you inform thy significant other before disrobing? or do you just go: "Surprise!" and what about ingrown hairs? my vote goes for trimming the man thatch to avoid/minimizing "human pinch flats". if its not exposed when you're in bike shorts, then just trim it.

Face lotion/ass lotion, what's the difference, right? My wife is very supportive of all the biking (and the expense), but I would catch hell for sure if I misused her fancy face lotion in such a way!

Nair has a product they sell as a "lotion", though in the directions they clearly state not to rub it in, but to rub it on.
I use it, only problem is in some areas I get a bit of chemical burn (behind the knees). No bumps, no razor burn (chem burn for me is significantly shorter lasting). Used it last a few weeks ago and will probably do it again on Friday. My wife likes it
OP - I know what you mean by "pinch flats." It sucks, when it happens, it breaks my skin as there are areas where I won't use Nair and have my wife shave it...though I'd probably be better off using the Nair as clumsy as she is...

I do it all. I hate body hair. Always have. To me, Nothing looks cooler than a cyclist with some rocking hard legs with a nice shave. I shave everything below the belt and wax everything above. Chest hair on the right person is ok as long as it isnt coming through your jersey. But im 50% vietnamese so I was blessed with the speratic hair growth. Let me tell you, chest hair on me isnt attractive. Im 30 years old and finally this year can grow somewhat of a discusting beard, but I wont allow it.
Quick tip for those having issues around the groin with irritation: use an electric razor around your junk. (Above and to the sides of your thighs) I always have an issue with a blade but electric rasor never gives me a problem.

^ In the same boat.
I HATE BODY HAIR.
I shave everything except the top of my head. I even shave my face daily.

Haven't shaved my legs in over 10 years. Why start again now when I'm not physically fit enough to place podium?

Shave up to the thigh and just trim the rest short to keep from having the "tug". If you keep 'um about 3/4", you should be good. Plus your significant other will probably like it.
