Velonews on the Tour de France
Great article on the Tour and its problems. Of which there are many.
Get rid of the race radios for starters.
Better security.
If you get Velonews, be sure to read that piece.

I agree with getting rid of race radios for the riders. To me, that's sanctioned cheating. Once the riders are on the road the only time they can get info is from the time board on the back of the motorcycle or if you go to your team car. That's it.

The pros (safety) and cons (predictable tactical racing) have been argued about for years but I don't understand how their use can be described as "sanctioned cheating". Please explain.

The radios are not the reason the TDF has become predictable or the reason SKY is winning. Its because they choose a strategy and they stick to it. Instead of being a super-fast Amtrack Acela train, they choose to be a slow, powerful unstoppable freight train that just slowly mows down everything that gets in there path.
We are witnessing greatness in cycling with Sky, and yes, it can be boring, like the Schumacher Ferrari years in F1, but it is an undeniable dynasty and we may never see it again.

It will be seen again. I recall Discovery and US Postal as unstoppable freight trains. History repeats itself, yet with new actors.

its awfully hard to get a whole team to buy into a strategy and philosophy and stick to it. Usually personalities get in the way and things come apart. Sky riders have bought into their strategy hook, line and sinker. No individuals on that team, its an all-team first concept. And it works exceptionally well.
I don't picture riders like Sagan, Nibali or Valverde doing well there. To regimented for them. It takes a certain kind of rider to be on that team I think.
