Trainer fluid replacement

Does anyone know what kind of oil is in Travel Trac Comp Fluid? I called performance bike product support, they have no idea. Also, if you happen to know how much goes in there, that would be good to know as well.

My guess is hydraulic/transmission fluid would probably work. But anyway I googled it for you, and post #11 in this thread is worth a shot.

It's an inexpensive trainer so it's pretty low-risk to at least try:

CycleOps fluid trainer - all my fluid disappeared.

I am aware of that thread. The suspicion I have is that cycleops and travel trac might be using different fluids with different viscosity rating. I actually found a fairly common ISO 46 grade hydraulic jack oil (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CPJMXY...ing=UTF8&psc=1), which has anti-foaming and anti-rust properties. I just don't know if 46 is the correct viscosity for travel trac. Gotta try and see as you suggested. I still need to figure out how much to put in there....

So, Mobil DTE 746 is hard to find. I contacted local Mobil distributor and they recommended DTE 25 as an alternative, which is easier to find. I will report the outcome here for future reference.

Mobil DTE 25 arrived. I filled the fluid reservoir with 6oz of oil first and tried the resistance. It felt a little on the easy side and added 2oz more. I don't have a power meter to verify the consistency of the power curve, but I think 8oz gives a resistance very close to the original.
