Tern Verge D9 2018, Cumbersome fold
I'm wondering if anyone can help me understand why I can't easy find information on the net regarding the fold of this bike. Specifically, how it's so crazy cumbersome and impractical! I'm pretty sure I'm doing it right as there only seems to be one way.
I think I know why Tern don't show any photos of their fold front on. The handlebars stick out a mile! This has two big issues.
One is i'm going to be smacking objects and people with them every time I go on public transport. And two, it unbalances it such that when I pick it up by the seat the chain swings straight into my legs. Which will leave lots of grease every time..
I don't understand why people don't consider these things showstoppers? Would all non-Bromptons be just as bad?
I've seen how people fold up Bromptons and it's so crazily more compact and practical. It costs more, but not much more than the Verge.
To make matters worse, when wheeling around and the pedals are unfolded, they hit the wheels, if I fold the pedals up then they hit the frame. There's no tolerance between the crank arms and the frame, the crank arm even rubs against the frame on each rotation.
Thoughts? Any brands that comes close to the Brompton fold or should I just admit defeat and shell out for a Brompton?

I use long Ergon GP-5 grips so I prefer having the handlebar folding to the outside. I don't want to use the andros stem with quick release and having to reset the handlebars every time I fold/unfold. Although if you definitely need the smallest fold, having the handlebar fold inward would help. You'll need the Andros stem.
