Squeaky brakes on my mountain bike

Hello,
The breaks on my mountain bike started squeaking. I pulled the pads. The height of the pads is equal to a quarter (the coin) height. I do not want to damage the rotors.
I heard that if the rotors glaze they can make noise. Not sure what to do here. Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks

Bed the pads in? you can Google how to do this; have you got oil on the rotor? some brakes just squeak.

Try wiping the rotor surface with some iso alcohol.

Oil in pads , replace them ...no contamination, glazed pad surface ? sand it off
(Carborundum grit not garnet grit which is for wood)

Or again, replace, I was happier with my BB7 disc calipers , with Kool stop organic compound disc pads..
Than the OEM stock ones..

[I'm even happier with recently, replacing the Avid BB7 Mtn calipers ,
so they are for sale]

What mountain bike? Which "breaks" brakes? Vague questions are difficult to answer. Are the brakes hydraulic? Or mechanical? Did the brakes start squeaking after a particular event. How old is the bike and how often do you ride it? Really, the quality of the answers is largely going to depend on information provided.
