My new Trek 7.2FX arrived today!
I have been using a 3-4 year old Trek 7100 for tooling around the neighborhood. I finally made up my mind to get serious about my riding, losing weight, etc. So I gave my 7100 to my constantly growing 13 year old son. It fits him great and he loves it. He was desparate for me to remove the seat bag and fenders. Not cool enough I guess.
So, i did alot of researching and chose my new 7.2FX. Matte black and very cool. Even my wife said, "Wow Honey, cool bike." She then proceeded to tease me about my MTB shorts that came in the mail today. Anyway, I'm very excited to start getting comfortable with this new bike. I've signed up for an organized 40 mile ride in April. I can't wait. thanks for reading!

Yep! Just got in my first 11 mile, let's get to know each other, ride. Seat will take some getting used to. I can't believe how smooth this bike is. I have an upcoming organized 40 mile ride in April, so hopefully by then, i'll be settled in.

I thought about that but was unsure. I rode today for my my introductory ride. 11 miles and the bike was smooth as silk. What kind of tires for that size and brand would you suggest? I am road work only, not trails.

I had a 7.2 and it was a great bike so congrats!! Also, the new versions are so much better looking than what I had.
I think it's very common for people to swap out the saddle soon after buying a new bike. I think you are right to give it some time but if your butt's not conformed to it in a couple of weeks, you might consider a different one.
Also, I've found that tires are the absolute best investment for upgrading a bike. I'm currently running Vittoria Randonneur Hyper 32mm tires and they are awesome. They are light, fast, corner very well and just overall fun to ride. They have a new model name this year (not hyper) but I don't remember what it is. I hightly recommend them and they are well regarded in the long-distance riding crowd (think 200, 400, 600 km rides) so they are a good mix of comfort, speed and flat protection.

I thought about a 7.3FX, but went with a Fuji Absolute 1.4 instead. It has 700x28's, my old bike had 700x23's...the 200x28s are definetly smoother without giving up any speed. I also tried different padded seats, until I finally bought some padded biker shorts...they are much better than a fluffy seat.

Congrats on our bike and good choice. I have a 2010 7.2 FX and have put over 5K miles on it. I'm on my 3rd set of tires - I chose 35mm with the 3rd set and have been the most pleased - more comfy ride and more durable. I put a Brooks B17 on it and M540 SPDs on it and haven't looked back.

Enjoy your new bike -- i have a 7.3fx and love it. Try the seat for a little bit, i got used to mine and it is a pretty good seat.

I have had My FX 7.2 since 06 and I have done some incredible time and miles on it. I still use it to this day. Good luck

Congrats. I bought mine in August Last year. I bought the Disc version. I haven't changed anything on it so I'll keep a lookout on this thread for tips.
