Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2 Tbsp Gatorade + Maltodextrin (Bulkfoods.com), any where from 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup (100 - 200 cal) depending on workout (steady road vs MTB for example) + Salt, amount depending on temperature
When I say depending on temperature - if it's cool out, I don't drink as much, so don't take in the calories...
Tri friend of mine goes with more of a drink when thirsty schedule and set food schedule no matter what the temp

Alcofit Kiwi, when I'm on one of my two racers. (It's the best tasting, in my opinion)

I read somewhere that 4:1 carbs to protein was the best way to metabolize on-the-road energy drinks/foods. I also read that 3:1 was the best but I read 4:1 most often so I've tried that most often and pretty much agree. I make a concoction of a few different things to get a mix that has seemed to be okay for me. I keep experimenting. After breaking down the actual product content, I came up with one that contains: mostly maltodextrin for the carbs along with some Glyco-Maize and Gatorade and sometimes, trehalose; for protein: whey isolates... and to that, add some potassium citrate and Vitamin C. Probably about a tablespoon of the mix or so per bottle. Pretty diluted. As I said, I keep experimenting but this is basic.

Been drinking Infinit Nutrition for years. You can build a custom formulation on their website to suit your needs (calories, protein, electrolytes, flavor level, etc.). It's a little pricey but they have a big Buy One Get One Free sale every year. I've made minor tweaks to my formulation to address changes in my fitness and riding style.

i used to have cytomax but haven't bought any in a while. I like one bottle water and one bottle Nuun. I like Nuun better than Gatorade personally. It is lighter and less sugar. Although in the middle of a warm ride a couple weeks ago i diluted some Gatorade and the sugar helped or it was the Jet blackberry GU ! Energy picked up after those.

commuting i just use water in one bottle. it is around 22 miles round trip (give or take)

Infinit powder. Custom blends for long 6+ hour rides and shorter 1.5-2 hour rides. I've used it alone for hydration and nutrition out to 12 hours in 50-70 degree F weather. No stomach issues. Need to drink about a bottle every 1-1.5 hours.

A Nuuns tablet plus a couple of scoops of maltodextrin per bottle is what I use. Basically Heed but cheaper.

Usually just water, sometimes a “little” lemon/lime Gatorade. I’ve survived just fine without fancy astronaut crap.

Lately I've been using Fizz Grapefruit or Nuun Grapefruit/Orange with a bit of Simply Grapefruit juice + ice in one bottle, and Fizz Mango in the other.

Roctane Fruit Punch. All the other Roctane flavors I've tried, taste like... Just really bad. With that, I put a heaping teaspoon of maltodextrin.

Right now, a whole milk latte. It'll make new have to pee when I get to the start of the ride! Also help me keep my eyes open.

Boy that flavor takes me back to the days of my health food obsession. Just after my vegan days as I recall. I was drinking Gatorade like water.

My local supermarket only stocked two powder flavors: orange and lemon/lime, with an occasion fruit punch but that one always came with an intense "burning" aftertaste.

In other news, I'm taking my weekly coffee break - McDonald's Breakfast blend w/Gordon Lightfoot in the background.

Hmmm
Ive only seen the lemon lime and orange, don’t recall the fruit punch. That big tub o lemon lime lasted forever.

McDonald’s big breakfast and some Sundown would be a great way to start the day.

Nuun is easy, so I use it for warm weather riding. Cold-brewed coffee before a ride, but only if it starts early.

I'm experimenting with Tailwind Nutrition Endurance Fuel for longer rides, as I've learned that my system doesn't like solid food while riding. It worked well for my 100 miler last weekend, without the sticky sweetness of Gatorade (or Skittles).

I did a half-strength Gatorade "Glacier Freeze" with 1/2 Lemon-Lime Nuun "energy" tablet, plus 1.5 scoops of maltodextrin in a bottle.. Tasted good and probably contributed about 20 watts average for the ride

The last few months I'm trying SiS gels and powder. Is working good for me, however once I didn't eat so much and used only gels. That didn't feel so good ;-)

Not as sticky as it used to be. Its no longer made with high fructose corn syrup but sugar (the only sport drink btw.). There is also a "low sugar" and "zero calorie" variant.

Every morning before I have anything else I have one scoop pea powder protein. Better than any of the other protein supps I have tried. That usually fuels me through my morning ride with just water (I live in coastal.VA and am lucky to gain 100 ft of elevation in 25 miles). If I'm out for longer on the weekends, I usually drop a nuun tablet in. Ocassionally I'll throw in some purple wraath, but that's about it.
