Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ugrade 5800 shifters to ST-R7000?

The LBS recommends doing a shifter flush on my 5y old 5800 road STI shifters and I'm wondering if I should take that $40 and just get some new ones. Anyone upgraded these shifters is there any difference in performance? Looks like Ultegras are only 50 more?

$40 for a “shifter flush”? Are you talking about a hydraulic brake flush/bleeding, or just shifter mechanism maintenance?

What's WRONG with the current shifters?? Maybe just keep them as is, with a little lube they may keep going for awhile.

In my very humble opinion, there is no meaningful difference in overall performance between the R5800 and the R7000 STI's.

You know you want to .... so I will encourage you to make the upgrade.

Please send me the old shifters as a reward for my support.
