Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". Probably the dirtiest ride I've done was the Middle F**k Snoqualmie. I knew going into it that it was a dumpster dive. I've seen enough rainforests for a lifetime and usually prefer to be on the dry side (of the Cascades) but time was limited this day.

Looks like splattery mud. Way better than sticky mud.

Well it gets stickier the deeper you sink. But I prefer dry and dusty.

Saturday morning is best spent grinding. I went on a "short" 30km ride with my local group of which 15kms were gravel and about half of that going up hill and then down through a very steep road (thank goodness for disc brakes).

Ride to dream.

A couple of pictures before the farmland starts to green up this spring. One shot of my kids on a camping trip I took with them in 2015. Taken with 35mm FujiFilm.

Yes, I know it's flatland. Wind instead of hills add challenge to the rides.

My wife, who is French and North African, tells me she can see beauty anywhere, even the plains of South Kansas.

Sunday's ride.
55 miles
Gravel, pavement, dirt
There was an inch of fresh snow at my house when I left.

Heres a few. The rest can be seen on my EVENT PAGE

Notice the pic with the nest in the tree. That tree was about 300 yards off the road. I think it was an eagles nest. It had to have been a huge nest. My camera was zoomed in all the way. I could never get over the beauty of plum thickets blooming in the spring.

This quote from your post above hit home with me. I live in boring old Iowa. I mean I love to get away to see something besides corn and beans all the dang time. But surprisingly every year people from all over the world come here for a 1 week bike ride and so many are in awe at the things they see. Beauty is what you make of it I am starting to learn.

Yup Gravelking SK, 700x40mm...though IRL they measure 44mm+a skoche on those hoops.

This build is still a WIP
, and fit and handling was more the worry this morning...tuning tire pressure will come later (also need to figure a mounting-brace-extension for my rear rack). Coming from years of roadie slicks at 90PSI....even overinflated knobbies (I think they still had 60PSI from seating them LOL) are more comfortable on crappy roads/paths.

Handles great, did some not-too-technical single track descents on damp mud/grass as well as rails-trails and chipped limestone.

yeah thought the "Carver" name sounded familiar sa-weet! I never gave pressure much thought on my road bike, just made them hard & took off. now I'm coming down from that, especially for the front. learn as I go ... don't know much about Nebraska - looking forward to you sharing pics here & there of the landscapes. sounds like a nice variety!

I didn't think to take a picture while mired in the mud, but this was just before I got home...

Sorry, I was too busy trying to figure out why the image was of such low quality -- bb doesn't seem to like png.

Here is how the trails looked -- through the fish-eye lens of my Sony action cam. (Those redwood tree trunks are straight in real life.) The kid took over my mountain bike, and is teaching himself to bunny-hop.

I went for a short 8 Mile ride on gravel today. I decided to do it old school and I just wore my blue jeans and my shirt my clipless shoes and my helmet. I had mud slung up from the crack of my ass to the small of my back LOL. My wife told me it look like I **** myself but I said I'm going to wear this stuff all day long and be proud of it haha

Heh.... Did 25 miles and I went exploring miles along the Salt Creek Levee Trail here in Lincoln....got to the parking lots for the arena...and only then realised that it was a Husker home game day (where Nebraska actually does manage to lose to itself).
