Help with crankset identification...

Does anyone recognise the logo on this crank? There are no other markings. The crank set is from a mid 1980s Peugeot 12-vitesses assembled in New Zealand. After searching and comparison with other known brands I've come to the conclusion they are generic.

can you explain further the phrase "assembled in New Zealand"?

bicycles were assembled at a Peugeot facility in NZ?

assembled by a distributor? individual?

thanks very much for any clarification you can provide.

NZ Peugeot 12-vitesses

To the best of my knowledge - and I am sure I don't have the full story - the Peugeot 12-vitesses model was made in NZ by Healing Industries under license to Peugeot in France. I understand the frames were made to spec in Auckland NZ. I have two of those frames and the markings appear unique. The story came from a local (Auckland) bike shop owner who was in operation from the c. 1950s/60s and up until last year.

I was also advised that people purchasing racing bikes back in the day would commonly request components and have their bike assembled for them.

I hope this is helpful and would be grateful for any further information or correction if I am mistaken about any aspect.

Another possibility is the frames could have been made in Australia. Peugeot bikes were being made there also under license to Peugeot France.

That's a Maxy, except for the logo. Is the back of the arm stamped; perhaps 171mm?

poster writes that there are no other markings

if done by Sugino or Sakae Ringyo, for example, one would yet expect to see their markings on the backside of the arms

we may learn that it was produced in some place such as Indonesia or Malaysia

T-Mar shall likely be able to spread some of his light...

SR is the first I thought also. Then I saw the clover-ish thing and started thinking Union of W. Germany, but that's not quite right either.

There's nothing I have been able to find but I'll have another look just in case - perhaps with a magnifying glass, eyesight being not quite what it used to be!
[pause...]
No - there are no other markings - just scrapes and scratches. I'm guessing the manufacturer name was on a sticker or plastic cover that's been lost.

Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions!
