Freebies are a devious psychological pressure on people to buy something from the shop. I think it pays off for the shop in the long run. If I was a regular customer at the shop, I'd maybe take a drink but not when just dropped in first time or very irregularly. I'd feel guilty if I took the freebie drink and then end up not doing any business with the shop, as it sometimes happens.

Drink hammers your performance when it comes to any sporting ride, it is ok only for non performance bike outings.

Also the state should not have a zero policy on alcohol for drivers that includes bicycles. Not that I am all that law abiding in this way but it would not be pleasant to be caught.
