Wheel/Tire Clearance Question

Hi Folks!... new to this forum...

I'm currently running Conti GP 5000 25mm on an older set of Fulcrum Racing 3's which have an outer width of approx 22mm. I don't have any clearance issues.
If I upgrade my rims to ones with an 25mm outer width and run the same tires, will I have tire clearance issues?

How much clearance do you have now?

how much space is in between there now? I'd estimate a 15% width increase from the reduced aspect ratio by going to a wider rim.

I wouldn't expect any problem.
It may be difficult to even notice.

fwiw, it's the inner width of the rim that really matters. The fulcrums i think are 17c; what are the new wheels (likely somewhere between 19 and 21)?

We've seen quite a few "up grade" wheels that are wider then the older ones and now the brake caliper barely has any spring loaded range before the pads contact the rim, and the cable QR makes nearly no difference. Quite a few result in wheel removals where the tire is caught up between the pads. Not what I would call unsafe but somewhat sad that the new wheels are not as compatible with the old components (brake calipers) as one would hope. Andy

I'm not sure you'll gain anything with wider rims. The current trend of course is to go wider but from some riders I've talked to it's highly overblown the actual improvement, if any, in performance you'll get using the same narrow road tire on a wider rim. With all things being equal with new rims of your choice, adding width also adds weight. I would save my money for something else.
