When and where does this ride start? My 77 Nishiki is itching to stretch her legs.

I wish there was something in the South Bay. I have looked in the regional forum for SoCal which says there are X number of threads but I don’t see a single post. If anyone is down for a South Bay ride post up or dm me

there had been rides out of the Bicycle Stand shop in Long Beach, normally The Bicycle Stand hosts a monthly classic bike ride every last Saturday in Long Beach. But with Covid restrictions don’t know if they can sponsor or take the liability. But check out their store for sure and website or give them a call to confirm.

Thanks for reporting Manny, glad to see everyone. Sorry to hear about Bean Town, must have been terrible. Hope they get rebuilt properly and survive.

Thanks, I intend to check it this week. I have a vintage steel frame that is slightly tweaked and I need it straightened and hoping they can do it.

RE: Bean Town:

Hi all, hope you all are doing well. Although I haven't been able to ride with them, many folks are still keeping the Velo-Retro ride alive and well. Many of you will know we stop at the 17 mile mark at the Bean Town Cafe and Bakery in Sierra Madre for some scrumptious pastries, food, and conversation. We also get to show our bikes and talk to the many passersby along that busy part of town.

I recently found out that Bean Town suffered an accident Monday morning August 10, 2020 when a car somehow backed out of a parking stall 3 businesses down, accelerated, did a U-turn and jumped the curb and backed into the front entrance of the Cafe, taking with it an outdoor table and mowing down chairs and their gumball machine. The car destroyed the front entrance and adjacent glass windows. Thankfully no one was hurt. The shop was red-tagged and being rebuild since September. Their Facebook page suggests good progress and a reopening soon, likely another month or two.

So progress.

Wish I could have been there, but I had a band rehearsal, and it was at my house, so I kinda had to be there. Got new tires, a new chain, and new brake pads on the Centurion (still have most of the rust, though), looking forward to taking it out with the group next month. Today would've been a great day for a ride.

It sucks that this ride is on first Sundays, because the Palm Springs Vintage Market is too, and my wife and I never miss it.

The ride goes even if no one shows up. But there were four of us. Scott was there on an early 70's, Spence Wolf kitted Cinelli. Being horrible with names, I can't remember the names of the two others. Classic blue Gios, and an Eddy Merckx. Having run into Scott and Wilson at the Encino swap meet the prior day, we discussed it might be a Cinelli themed day, so I rode my '63 Supercorsa to oblige.

I was driving down the 605 frwy on Sunday morning headed to Pasadena when I got an important phone call. I turned around and went home.

I'll be at the Brian Baylis Birthday ride this Sunday though.

I'm going to make it out to this ride one of these days. My Nishiki needs to stretch its legs.

Hey guys, quick question, do folks use classic pedals, or everyday clipless pedals for this ride? I tend to use my PowerTap pedals unless prohibited by rule! I am planning on being in LA that weekend to visit my son, and I expect to be able to take part finally. Looking forward to meeting some of you guys then!

I don't think there are any hard rules about what is allowed on this ride. C&V is encouraged, but not strictly mandated.

Anyone riding tomorrow, May 2? I’m now fully vaccinated and have been riding group rides on Saturdays so figured with masking should be ok to resume my Velo-Retro riding. Hope to see some of you there.

apparently Bean Town is not yet reopened but close so we’ll probably stop at the Pizza place or one of the other eateries nearby in Sierra Madre. Weather should be ideal, mid 60’s at 11:00, low 70’s for the ride, mostly sunny all day.

Which vaccination did you get? I did have a 24 hr side effect period starting about 14 hrs after getting my 2nd Moderna vax, had chills, a mild temp and just felt fatigued. My wife had similar and was in bed the whole day. Both of us felt literally off then on when symptoms cleared the day after as if nothing had happened.

Hope your symptoms clear and you feel better soon. For me, a small price for protection and piece of mind. See you in June.
