Kind of a shot in the dark but I'm looking for a couple of spare tools to attempt to service my Shimano brifters.

Shimano TL-ST01 - for removing/installing the locknut on STI road levers
Shimano TL-ST02 - pin/guide tool for installing the outward return spring for STI road levers

I've got various parts for trade or I will buy. The spring guide tool seems to be more common than the lock nut tool, but I figured I'd see if anyone had both. If not I will take just the locknut tool.

Diamondback parts--who needs 'em?

For some reason, I bought a Diamondback Master TG a few months back. Actually, I do know why: I couldn't help myself. It was really cheap and it had mostly Shimano 105 parts, including STI shifters. The bike seems to be pretty much identical to the one in this thread

https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...r-tg-find.html

except that it's a 63 cm frame.

The thing is, the frame is really rusty and not worth saving. It must have been stored in a damp garage. The brakes and front and rear derailleur are in good shape. The crankset seems fine functionally, but the silver paint has bubbled up in places--could probably be stripped to the bare aluminum, if anyone wanted to bother. Seatpost is hoplessly corroded, but stem was fine--go figure. Pedals, maybe non-original, are Shimano 1056, clipless for road shoes. I would have thought the wheels were original, but the rims are slightly mismatched. The Shimano hubs seem to be identical, though.

Oh, yes, the brifters--the left one works fine, but the right one doesn't shift. Maybe a broken spring or something? Possibly someone who knows something about brifters could get it working again. I fooled with it a little bit but soon gave up.

Let me know if you need this stuff, because I'll never use any of it. If you do we can probably work out some kind of exchange.

I'd be interested in the STI brifters and rear derailleur. Please let me know.

Shimano TL-ST01 - for removing/installing the locknut on STI road levers

I had a spare socket of the proper diameter of the locknut and used a dremel tool to cut out the material needed to create the four tines that engage the locknut. Takes time, but doable.

And I used a cable end crimp for holding the spring. Worked ok.

I came across a few mentions about doing the same as you did with the socket. I may give it a couple more days of searching before giving it a try.

What did you do about the return spring tool? Did you make one of those as well?

IIRC, I have a set of these tucked away in the spares box. 52/48 (?)

I don’t recall needing one... perhaps thats why I had to have someone else finish the repair... I actually inherited an STI in need of repair, I never managed it. I only disassembled my own to the point of cleaning and regreasing.

That's okay - I think I have a small metal tube that I can use in its place. That's all it really is.

I made my locknut removal tool today with just basic tools. Just a set of metal files and a bench vise. Worked like a charm!

WTB: yellow San Marco Rolls or Regal saddle

Hi All,
I’m looking for a yellow Rolls or Regal saddle in good condition or better. I’m not interested in the day-glow fluorescent 90s yellow, but rather the canary yellow. Thank you,
Dwayne

ISO dust/bearing cap for SR 150 pedal

Lots of vintage bits and pieces to trade.
Thanks and regards,

Just a bump in hopes of getting some info.

I think an MKS cap will fit — they’re available online. I have a silver metal cap that I think is SR / correct size if you want it.

I would have thought this as well, but being injured and unable to ride, I decided I had time to check. It turns out the SR pedal cap thread is slightly smaller than the MKS/Campagnolo cap thread, and the MKS cap (for Sylvan pedal) doesn't fit.

OTOH, having time to waste, I decided to try other options. The SR cap thread appears to be the same as a standard 22mm x 1mm crank arm thread, so a cap for a crank arm may work if the pedal axle doesn't protrude too far out.
