probikekit.com. They have red, white, blue, yellow, and black. $2.88/roll, and no shipping or tax. I always have 10 or so rolls on-hand for my overhauls.

It is not cork or cork-like but rather a padded vinyl. It looks good and goes on great, and I like the feel.

This thread is perfect for posting this bike..I purchased this bike from a thrift store and did'nt know what to do with it. I know it's not rare by any means and it had'nt been taken care of very well. I found some very good deals on e-bay for most of the parts and I only have about $120 in this bike as it sits. It rides great..Let me know what you guys think..
Before..

After..

I have that bike's big brother. It's going single speed with knobbies and a moustache bar.,,,,BD

After pic to come......

DURING....Just missing the brake cables. Sugino 48T with a 1/8" chain, wellgo pedals, ambrosio black wrap, forged rail Specialized saddle. It was a $2 thrift store find.

Very cool wolfpack, glad you made it to the c&v. The knowledge here is endless when it comes to putting together an old classic. This sounds creepy but I've been watching your progress on the "ladies of foo" thread.. I wish I did half the riding you have been doing ...Can't wait to see your project..Also bikedued, that's at least a close cousin to the Century. I thought about going single, but needed a good trainer and distance bike. So I upgraded with some newer components.

No more white. 1 more yellow. I ordered 9 rolls. I can't even get those types of prices through the distibutors... less than 3 bucks! Oh! and no shipping charges WTF!

Great thread!
Here's mine. Seen variously before, but in sequence here.
1977 Mercian frame/forks bought off of ebay 30th December.
Arrived 10th Jan.
Ebay montage:

After fitting various available bits donated from my Viscounts was roadworthy here:

Bit of a mongrel, but wanted to ride it ASAP

In its current form and rides very nicely:

Not perfect yet, with Shimano 105 components.
But getting there?

do you have a close-up of your shifter set up? also, is there something weird going on with your seatpost head or does it just look strange in the picture? it seems almost like the separate clamp that would be used with a straight post attached to an integrated clamp type seatpost......

Here some close-ups for ya purevl..As I said this was purely a budget build. I got the wheels, shifters, & brake levers from e-bay. Apparently this person had parted out one of the newer Schwinn Varsity's that Walmart or one of the chain stores are selling. I know there are different opinions about this style shifter but I really like them they shift fine. The seatpost is one that I had laying around, not my first choice but it's what I had for now. I hate taking up close pics it really shows some detailing work I need to do..

Those shifters are actually kind of neat, sort of like old exage shifters or even a little like command. That seatpost IS weird, i've never seen one like it, i don't understand the benefit of manufacturing it that way...

My 1988 Miyata came from the factory with that seat post. I think USAZorro has it now.

Yeah it's pretty short too. That's why it's temporary on this bike. I need to put it up to the min.insert line to be comfortable. It is 25.8 x 250 (approx.). I love my frankenbike...Just took it for a nice ride yesterday.I'm ready for some better weather to really put some miles on..
