Cholesterol lowering

I once lost a 125 pounds and all of a sudden my wallet started gaining weight I don’t miss her
Seriously trying to get my cholesterol down so I’m eating a South Beach style diet but with more carbs so I have energy to train and ride.

Statins work very well. I increased my CoQ10 to 2 X 100mg/day to compensate for 20mg atorvastatin. Don't notice a difference except my total cholesterol dropped down to 145. We've eaten a mostly plant-based Mediterranean diet for the past 45 years.

I dropped weight and my cholesterol level, which was just borderline high, dropped to normal.

No drugs required.

IIRC, the maximum dose of statin allowed in red rice yeast extract pills is 5% of the minimum effective dose approved by the FDA. My suspicion, unencumbered by deep knowledge of individual circumstances, is that people who report cholesterol control by taking supplements are doing a very good job of controlling it via diet and exercise.

My cholesterol has never been high (usually 165 or less) but my new cardiologist (the old one didn't explain things or answer questions to my satisfaction) put me on a low dose statin yesterday. I asked why and she said that statins have "qualities" that can keep any deposits in the arteries from rupturing, which would cause an instant incident (heart attack, stroke, etc ).
