I'm just trying to figure out who on Trek Segafredo is racing FX's! If I'm racing a Madone, I'll go with a thinner tire, but on my new FX, I'm gonna swap for some 35mm tires & go tubeless as quick as I can. Why? Comfort and traction so I can take this on some fire roads.

Aren’t the grips on your bike now the same as the Ergon grips ? I know that with your bar, the grips on it are proprietary to the bars.

Pretty much. But I don't like the clear/white Inform inserts. To me, they ugly up the bike.

Have you put those grips on yet? I thought I read here that people have trouble putting those on the FX's isozone bar.

Thanks for the heads up Jarrett. I see now that the bar is indented and the white inform is inlaid in the dent. Trying to cancel now. Bummer.

**Cancellation went through.

You could always get new handlebars too.

Thanks Colonel. You pushed me over the edge. The GS1's are back on order. Along with a Bontrager Race X Lite Carbon Handlebar.

Nice to see that I am a good influence.

Will the 720mm width be an issue for you?

It's funny Delwis, as I was scrolling down the thread, I was going to recommend the Bontrager RXL Carbon Bar! I've been using it on my hardtail and now my singlespeed rigid MTB for 3 years now, and it can take a beating! Super light, smooths out the rough, and looks awesome too! Damn, maybe I need to buy another one for my new bike.

What length would/do you use?

OK. I did some research and it looks like the carbon bars are fairly easy to cut. The big thing is to use a fine toothed blade slow and easy then, clean up the ends with fine sand paper. If I cut 1- 7/8-2"" off each end I'll have the stock length.

Since I use the bars on my MTB, I kept them at 720mm. If I were you, I'd try them out at 720mm before cutting them. Wide bars are great, as it keeps your chest open to suck in much needed oxygen. Don't forget to pick up at "Bontrager Preset Torque Wrench" when you stop by your shop. It's a great little tool that will keep you from over-tightening all those carbon fiber parts!

Thanks V8. 2" wider on each size is just too much for me. I'm gonna cut them to stock length.

I emailed Trek and they said it would be okay to cut them. I was a little worried because some bars are reinforced in the grip area and didn't want to weaken the bar or run into any ribs/cross members. My boss/friend has this cool little tool for cutting tube.

Got the Selle Royal Scientia M3 saddle installed tonight! My first real modification. It is so much nicer and comfortable than the stock saddle.

I decided today, I am going to do all the work on my FX myself. I've had some experience working on bikes and there are plenty of Youtube tutorials to learn whatever I want to do.

Once I get the handlebar/grips and tires on later this week, my next project will be to swap in Shimano Acera M425 brakes. Those are the brakes Trek used on the 2017 before going to the Tektro in '18. In the meantime, I am looking at wheels. Carbon would be nice but not too likely. Maybe.

Yup, I thought they were proprietary to your bar. I didn’t like the white inserts either, so I just painted them black and reinstalled the grips.
