Surly Moloko Bar finally got it taped !

I really like the Moloko Bar on my Surly Ogre, but even with gloves holding onto the “horns” on long rides just wasn’t comfortable. Had my LBS tape the bar for me, and I really love the way it turned out, it’s really comfortable. They were able to use one piece of tape on each side, and made the areas where my palm and fingers make contact triple thick. It looks like a couple of big thumbs sticking out from the bars, which I think give the Ogre some personality, which it isn’t lacking. I also mounted my Surly Adjunct Bar Bag which I had for months, but was hesitant until the bars were taped, and it’s going to work great. I think I have a good amount of storage for my long rides now.

Those ought to be pretty comfy. I see you have the Ergon Cork. How do you like them?

The Ergon cork grips are nice, but I honestly can’t tell the difference from the regular rubber ergon grips. They’re more for ascetics than anything

Thanks ! I bought that bag back in October and thought it may have been to big to use with a taped bar and was wondering if I may have made a mistake buying it, but it ended up fitting really well.

How's the Moloko bar working out? I just ordered one for a Specialized Rockhopper that I'm slowly turning into a touring bike. It should be hear today or tomorrow and I can't wait to put it on and try it out.

I like it a lot, it’s a very versatile bar, it is a bit wide, so it takes a bit of getting use to, though you can always cut it, and I suggest getting it taped like I did. How is it working out for you ?

I reposted a pic because for some reason the original pics aren’t shown even though they’re still on the same shared server ?

I haven't ridden with it yet. I put it on but had to replace my rear hydraulic brake line as it was too short. Just go that done and am hoping to ride this weekend. Raining like crazy this week. Getting my bar tape this Friday. So far the bars feel good, I'm very optimistic.

I think you will like it, it’s more of a touring type bar, so it doesn’t do well under power/climbs, but if you’re looking for more power out of it, you could always shorten it. I know that doesn’t sound right, but the way the bars are swept back, cutting them will bring you closer to the the stem. I’ve left them un cut, mainly because my Ogre is a Saturday afternoon Beer & Taco cruiser.

Thanks ! Though the thanks needs go to Mark at David’s Bike World. He was able to use one piece on each side, double and triple wrapped gives it a very comfortable grip. He is a tape master, but even he said doing a Moloko Bar was a PITA.
