Pedalpower universal-i-cable

I just recently received the pedalpower+ universal-i-cable, which is a cable that purports to have circuitry allowing safe charging of all sorts of USB devices, including even the iPhone 3GS (a very finicky phone).

I took it on a quick ride today and my feelings are a bit mixed. It did work: my phone came up from 20% to 55%. On the other hand, since the ride was very much up and down, stop and start, the phone charging was constantly going on and off. This can't be good for the phone. The cutoff seems to be about 10 mph, which is faster than I usually go uphill. Now I don't know whether that's the cutoff where my iphone (3G, not the 3GS yet) will accept it, or a cutoff where the cable will provide it. I'd guess the former.

Friday I'll go on a longer ride and see how it works. I also have an imaxpower battery, which I could charge from the cable and (perhaps simultaneously) charge the phone from it. This approach would seem to be more friendly to the phone, while perhaps being less energy-efficient. Unfortunately, my battery is out of town until next week.

Anyone else have experience w/ this cable? The fit and finish all seems to be pretty good. The adapters etc. are relatively solid, and the bulky part of the cable appears waterproof.

I know this thread is almost eight years old, but that's part of why I bump it. My question is, does anyone have current information on the company that made / makes this; do they still exist? Their website does not seem to load. The product is still on Peter White's website, though.

I have one of these. It's several years old, but still works. It would be nice to know whether the company still exists, if they offer any support etc.

I don't really need anything. When it was made, almost every different cell phone or gps had a different charge plug, and the Pedalpower doodah comes with a variety of adapters, one of which is micro-usb. Now everything is micro usb, which is a cool looking but not robust connection. My micro usb adapter broke. So I thought I'd go on their website and find the specs of the adapter; it is micro usb at one end, obviously; the other end is a very small, maybe 2 mm plug. I'd like to find the specs on that plug, so I know what I'm looking for.

But it's not a big deal. All those other plugs that it came with are useless to me, so I'll just take one apart and solder a micro usb cable to it.

It would also be nice to know if it's possible to replace the internal batteries on the Pedalpower thing.
