Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Saturday --

We've come to a favourite part of Tasmania for a couple days. It's peaceful and quiet here ... and the cycling is great!

Today we relaxed for the early part of the day, then wandered around the farm a little bit, and then went for a ride. After we got back, we zipped into the nearby city to pay our usual visit to Zambreros and Cold Rock. Now a relaxing evening ...

Slow and solo ride up the coast, to Mt. Soledad, then back down the coast via La Jolla.
Blew off the group ride this morning. Just wasn't in the mood for another hammerfest.

Last good ride before next Sunday's 1 Day Cross Florida 167 mile ride.

Wasn't a good start today, internal issues and legs just not right, but did manage to hook on to the LBS group at mile 8 and hung on for a whole 8 miles before dropping off. Winds picked up but kept on pedaling completing the 102 miles without touching the ground (un-clipping) until back in the garage. Kind of got lost in the COSMOS while listening to my tunes and just went with the flow. Pretty sure everyone would consider it to be a very boring ride, as most of mine are, but simply needed the miles.

HOPEFULLY a pool swim tomorrow.

90 hilly miles yesterday. It was only supposed to be 75, but towards the end, a few people were done with climbing, so we opted for a slightly longer, but flatter ride back (just under 1000 ft of climbing vs 1800 or so).
It was a really good ride in the end, on a route most of us had never done, with beautiful scenery. A bit foggy and cold to start, but eventually the dog burned off every where and not just at the top of climbs.

Wasn't feeling like riding to much today planning a short casual ride, was a bit chilly too but quickly started enjoying the ride likely because I was on the Ricardo again At the last minute with no intention of doing it I headed up corkscrew road on a 42-25 low gear. It's hard for me on my lighter main bike with 39-29. Had to stand on the pedals half the way or literally couldn't have turned the crank but in the end did it no trouble without stopping and made Mt Lofty. I don't know why this bike climbs like it shouldn't be able must be the Suntour crank and wheel bearings, this thing does want to roll forever. Great day riding overall.

I always average about the same no matter what I ride. I could ride a pram at 21.7kph

Friday was the best day of the 3day weekend. 1750ft in 27 miles on Friday afternoon after work. I enjoyed the climbing efficiency of the Ridley Helium SLX. It really makes fast work of the very short 15% climbs in southern Wisconsin. 60 miles and 3200ft for the weekend.

I’ll just use the pavement today

Saturday was much colder with 15-20 mph winds, it was better to be indoors;

Good riding outside this weekend! No snow, and I managed to escape work for a change.

Friday: On the road with the gravel bike for a little three-hill challenge. 31.5 miles, 2,134'.

Saturday: Tried something a bit different...rode to the grocery store with the trailer, left the trailer locked up and went for a ride, then returned to collect some groceries. I did a quick run that's become a bit of an annual spring fitness test: if I can get up this particular hill (https://www.strava.com/segments/1229347) on the single speed without walking, I'm good to go. I made it (though there may have been a bit of a wind assist; the wind was somewhat brutal.) Total, including groceries: 23.5 miles, 965'.

Sunday: Second weekend women's ride of the year - the first I've been able to join. We did a nice loop with one fairly easy climb; 36.1 miles, 1,519'.

Pictures from Saturday:

40 casual miles Friday, including a group ride.

18 hard miles Saturday, tackling some headwind climbs into 20-30 mph wind. Not fun but the only way to get extended efforts here. Even the usually fast downhills were flattened out by the headwind.

Sunday -- heck, I can hardly move my legs or wake up from frequent naps. The previous two days must have been fun. I'll keep telling myself that until I believe it.

100+ K on Sunday. My first 100+ K ride of year.

Felt good to get out and have a good solo ride. I managed to get out and back before the roads became really busy with traffic. Some hills, some headwind. All in all a great way to start the Sunday.

The annual "Nifty Ten Fifty" ride.

Lots of hills, through the area where I grew up so packed with memories- many of them bike related.

Slightly short on conditioning due to all the rain & (insert other excuses here) but did OK

& the legs recovered with a beer or two & some Emergen-c.

Toppled over once while riding around a gate when the riders in front of me stopped- got a gigantic chain tattoo.

It's another 8 miles back to the start, so about 60 overall.

Did my first Duathlon on Saturday, came in 5th overall. Had a blast, already looking forward to my next one! Need to get more aero, got passed by four people on the bike portion, all of them in full aero. But luckily I'm a strong runner and I was able to catch three of them on the second run.

Had a nice easy 45 mile ride on Sunday, loving this spring weather!!

Saturday felt like my old self bike riding. Still can't take in really deep breaths or I cough. Anyhow got in 40 miles on my Picnic Is. Davis Is. route. Sunday not sure what happened, but I thought I would be building on Saturday's success, but instead my legs conked out at 34 miles. The rest of the ride was slow and sad. 40 in total also on the Picnic Is Davis Is route. Weather is great. I'm hoping to get myself back in shape before the heat of summer arrives. Unfortunately, I'm going to get no riding in this weekend.
