Should I be offended, flattered, or terrified?
So I've been road riding for a few years now. Always kind of go for distance slow and steady gets er done. Then I see a person pedaling their ass off on the rec path and they look both ways enter the road and come up right behind me... and say nothing at all... it's happened about five times now. I used to be that person maybe they want to join the roadies or something I just wish they would say something before appearing directly behind me.

Good call on letting it go.. I probably shouldnt have posted anything just happens pretty often. Different stroke diff folks. I'm sure their intent is not ill. Just havin fun. Just kinda put me off.

Consider that maybe it was because you were riding like you knew what you were doing? I only announce myself to other cyclists if they are 'wobblers', or there is some reason why they might veer left while I'm passing.

I don't think you should be any of those things, but there's certainly nothing wrong with considering whether such feelings are reasonable. The polite response would be to say "hello," but I don't think anyone could blame you if your greeting was less than warm.

Some people are greyhounds, and will do anything to have a rabbit in front. So, they see you go by and the instincts cut in and they chase until they catch up, then pace.
The fact that it's happened often with no consequences tells you it's pretty benign.
Personally, I don't like being drafted because it imposes an added degree of care should I decide to slow or stop on whim. But I don't mind if they pace off me a few yards back.
So, ignore the greyhounds, unless you prefer to zig across a few feet and lay up, so they come alongside, then strike up a conversation.
The fact that it's happened often with no consequences tells you it's pretty benign.
