Cold and raining here. Went up about 1/3 of the way of Alpe du Zwift this morning, and now watching Tour of California on TV.

I should have ridden yesterday when the weather outside was nice, but I didn't sleep well and I woke up feeling tired all over.

Yes he does awesome work, drags out full size strobes and battery on course...knows the trails well and where the G outs, drops and jumps are. Like HERE take my money!! Lucky he is actually pretty cheap, $10/$20 downloads per. And smugmug product pricing.

He took my money at the sagebrush race in March too. Printed a cool mouse pad too for cheap that stays in my laptop bag.
He dragged his (2) strobes up the mt to setup on this giant granite 15% grade face, but the backdrop was money though!!

I plan on riding GMR to Village this Sat. Meeting at 7am at dirt lot.

FYI I rode in nasty weather on Saturday...and had scary moment. Other ride was in MORE danger but all I heard was the screeching tires of locked up brakes and sliding of a vehicle behind me!!!

On a fun note. I went to the TOC in LB and went by the Breakaway from Cancer tent and was seeking the giveaway bag...they were out of them. IN chatting I mentioned our fearless moderator's battle and how I was sad I wasn't going to be able to attend the memorial due to riding AIDS Lifecycle. They gave me two VIP passes to their VIP tent at finish. So got to see the final 4 laps or so from there in PJ's memory.

I just spent like half an hour going through old Strava activities clicking "Correct Elevation." And by old ones, I mean ones recorded on my Edge 520.

Number of rides where the elevation went down: 1
Number of rides where the elevation went up: ALL OF THE REST
Average increase in ascent: 200ft per ride, around 9%
Biggest increase: I almost fell out of my chair, 1,399 FEET. My ride from home to Onyx Summit was 8,452ft via Garmin, corrected to 9,851ft.

Good lord. I guess I did make my 400k feet for 2017. By a lot.

I had issues with the older Garmin 800 robbing vertical miles off my rides too. Seems pretty accurate with the Wahoo so far.

The problem with correcting your rides after the fact, especially on a mountain, is that small changes in positional accuracy can result in large elevation changes.

My Garmin 500 consistently reports about 8% less than my riding buddy's 820. Both of ours show less climbing that what a route laid out in RidewithGPS will calculate in South Orange County, although other areas seem more accurate. For example I mapped out my GMR route from Saturday. RWGPS say 4,848', my Garmin reported 4,774, pretty close. I have RWGPS linked with Garmin Connect, so if i look at the actual ride, RWGPS says 4,714' After applying the RWGPS elevation correction, it says 4,831'.

Short of hiring a survey team, hard to know what the "right" number is.

I would be similarly skeptical, if it were not for the fact that mine is so consistently low. And that's with going and plotting out the route post-ride in Strava, Google Maps, etc. I rode side-by-side for 100 miles with my wife, and at the end she had 2,800ft, and I had 2,300. Strava corrected it to 2,851ft. Her 500 has been exceptionally consistent in terms of both elevation and distance. The 520, with a speed sensor, will give different mileage when riding the same lap of a route twice. Along with the elevation discrepancies, it has consistently shorted me around 3% in distance relative to my wife's 500. I have since done away with using the auto-calibration for rollout, going with a physical measurement. Nevertheless, the Karoo and the Garmin, paired to the same sensor and programmed for the exact same rollout, the 520 still reads less distance. My last two rides with my wife:

Her Edge 500: 21.16 miles, 440 feet
My Karoo: 21.18 miles, 452 feet
My 520: 21.05 miles, 417 feet

Her Edge 500: 27.64 miles, 758 feet
My Karoo: 27.33 miles, 778 feet
My 520: 26.69 miles, 686 feet

Again, it wouldn't matter much (as if it matters much now) if I didn't put in ~10k miles every year. I estimate in the time I've had the 520, it's shorted me by more than an average person rides in an entire year.

I forgot how much I like riding at night - got nearly 40 miles in tonight, about half after sunset. Nice and cool and I get to use every red blinky I own.

project hurt my legs is under way. Converted the Fixed "cool running" rig from track mode to more street mode. Going to follow my buddy on the SD metric century this Saturday. Good way to tell if I like this saddle and bike fit. 67mile and 4200ft vert, gearing is 48/18, tires are a slim shady 23mm wide, been almost 5+ yrs since I ran 23s when they were the kooaid on the club rides.

Yikes! I have yet to do Palomar on even my geared bikes.

I have though on and off about getting a SS with flip-flop. Primarily so I could do a ride with my wife and still get a workout. Came close to buying one last fall on bikesdirect, but they ran out of my size. Probably just as well, I certainly wouldn't ride it in the mountains, I'd blow up.

Well — first, corrected my Vivoactive HR logged Hale’akela ride. Now it is over a 10k climb. Just. That makes me happy and my Veloviewer looks better.

Second — at the last minute, I’ve decided to do the Santa Fe Half-Century tomorrow. I was planning to do it if the Bianchi arrived, but no. So ok, I’ll do it on the X-Cal. Then I manage to hit a big something on the road yesterday, and killed the rear Bontrager H2 (mind you. Those are 5 years old and 2000 Miles, so ...). So, in the spirit of someone on this forum, I did the last minute thing and bought whatever tyre the LBS had. (What could go wrong, eh?)

Ended up with a set of 42mm Soma Shikaro. Took them on a flat spin today and like them so far. At 60psi they are comfy and seem to roll pretty nicely. Even managed to get some Strava bling despite the recovering hip/pelvis, and not ‘I have ridden this only once before’. We will see how this goes — scrubbed the crap out of the drive train too.
