Soulcraft fixy

My old Soulcraft, rode it around with an eno hub laced to a salsa delgado for a few months in North Carolina... held up great as daily commuter, but I got schooled in an alleycat..

yeah, i think you can only get them ON bikes. giant had a blue and white EC90x on the TCX for 08. Also, I have seen other compaines get forks custom painted as well.

I do think those white EC90x's look sweet though.

Here's my Gunnar that's served me faithfully for many years:

I just finished this build incarnation, and man, is that stem too long. I put on a shorter one after I took this picture.

My only issue with the bike is that the head tube is so short--I need that mondo stack of spacers to get the bars where I want them. Well, also the powdercoat on these old Gunnars was pretty poor, but now I just enjoy it's battered, lived in look.

That's a great looking bike, but the reason you need such a high stack is that the bike was made for someone with much shorter legs than you have, judging by the height of your saddle.

It's a 60cm frame, the biggest they made back then. I'm 6'3", 36" PBH, not huge, but yeah, I agree, the tall seat and bars make it look too small.

Ironically, I bought it used from a cross racer who was selling it because it was too small. That was back about 2000 or so. Now, I would have trouble giving it up. Although I do like the tall head tubes on those Somas. I wish I could combine that with the dropouts and tire clearance of a Surly, that would give me a perfect bike.

My Custom Ti Cyclocross bike

Top Tube = 56.5 C-C
Seat Tube = 56 C-C
Main triangle is double butted 3.25 Ti
All Shimano components - 9 Speed Dura Ace
Fork = Easton CX cnt fork
Wheels = Neuvation Aero
Saddle = Flite
Handle bar = Reynolds Race 31.8mm
Stem = Syncros
Headset = IRD Technoglide (King knock off )
Brakes = Shimano BR550 Canti's
Seatpost = Dura Ace Easton
As is the bike weight is right at 18.5ibs.
It rides really well and the rear is stiff with over-sized chain (1 inch diameter ) and seat stays. Has a chainstay bridge in front of the rear wheel. This bike is really smooth and stiff. Love it.!!!

Am looking at replacing the brakes with Pauls Neo-retro Canti's and switching the wheels to Tubulars. Will update this post later after doing so.

I have the same bike in the same color, pretty sure it's the same year ('99?). I'm on the 50cm and the head tube is way too short for me, too, so I've got the mondo stack going. It drives me crazy. I'm thinking about selling the frame and swapping the parts onto something else.

Somas at the same top tube length have a 1.2cm shorter head tube (edit: compared to a Crosshairs). If you get the biggest Soma, the top tube is 2cm longer, which means a shorter stem, which means probably the same amount of risers to get the bars up to the height you have now.

Gunnars for the same effective size (i.e. the more reliable top tube length) actually have taller head tubes. You just like really high bars, which will mean lots of stack on pretty much any non-custom frame.

Not stalking you, I only know this because I practically CADed out each frame before I bought my Gunnar.

The new Gunnars have taller head tubes: the current 60cm frame has a 187mm head tube length, vs. my old one at 160mm. That's almost three (of my five) 10mm spacers removed right there. I wish Surly would pick up on this and extend the head tube on the Cross Check.

I've run my potential frames on CAD too

Hey OTS,
That's a sweet bike. Let me know which race you aim to make it to. I'm doing the Pilarcitos series.

It's just an older XTR, rapid rise with the rollamajig-device integrated, rather than a barrel adjuster. The only thing I really did to it was grind off some of the anodizing and polished the heck out of it, and I added some bulls eye alloy pulleys. I did a lot of work on the bashguard, what with partially drilling and countersinking it. I also filed the edges to give it more silver highlights. Nothing too special. I was planning on swapping out the pulley cage on the XTR for a short-cage Dura Ace, but I never got around to it.

that bike looks SICK! but those rotors look scary as hell. i wish i could justify deep V carbon rims for myself, but since i'm not planning on doing any real racing, it's just not in the cards...they do help a bike's overall look though.

took some crap photos of my bike...

custom (currently unpainted) fillet brazed frame by my friend joshua thayer (miles cycles). Columbus tubing (Forget which one). Steep angles, 74,73ish (ish due to using a different fork then we originally planned)

Chris king hubs laced to Ceramic Open Pros, 3x with dt swiss db spokes. wtb 700x38 interwolf in the front, 700x32 cross wolf in the rear.
Crank brothers cobalt sl direct set on the wound up team x fork. Deda newton stem, deda newton shallow bars. Record 9 speed shifters via jtek shiftmate to XTR shadow midcage. 42t TA ring in front, 11x32 xt cassette in rear. Chorus Compact crankset, thompson post, ti rolls saddle, time atac pedals. Paul neo retro brakes in the front, touring in the rear with kool stop ceramic pads. Moon units because i just had to, and paul cross levers. I think thats everything... Its somewhere around 20 lbs.
