This bike is sitting at the Salvation Army for $20. Can anyone identify the bike? There are no decals, it's really dirty, and may have been painted. The serial #is only half visible. The groupset is all Suntour XCE down to the hubs.

Well, I can't tell you what the bike is but I can help narrow it down. It looks to be late 80s/early 90s based on the XCE components, geometry, and stem/handlebar. It's definitely not a Trek.
The best way to go forward is get the serial number and run it through @T-Mar's database.
