In High Park in Toronto, the city has banned cars from entering. This has caused a protest movement in which a lot of senior citizens are complaining about accessibility.
I'm 62 years old and on occasion take a long 1+ hr 19km ride from my home to that park. I know everybody has his own story but our car-centric culture has turned everything into an accessibility issue when we make roads safer by restricting cars eventhough restricting cars improves accessibility.
I hope that I'll still be riding long distances when I'm 80 and by then so will some of those protestors when they visit the park.

Looking at 80 in a little less than a year. 31 miles is the longest ride I've done this year, and I had to take a few days off after it due to a saddle sore. The saddle sore is gone, I'm using a new lube, and I did 3 20+ rides in the last week - but I have to take a week off for a trip now. When I get back, son and GS will be visiting, so I'll get to 30+ with a little luck.
But I don't think I can even walk up Mt. Washington, much less ride.

A few years back I was taking a break from a ride and met an 82 year old gentleman riding his road bike around Lake Washington (50+miles) that day. Come to find out he had ridden coast to coast 3 times and had numerous long distance rides under his young belt. Great guy doing impressive miles. Always makes me smile thinking of him.
