Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Opinions on Bell Sweep helmets

Hi,

I have always been a Met guy and I love this brand's helmet. Now that it is time to change my helmet whose foams are falling apart, I'm proposed a terrific deal on a Bell Sweep R helmet. Do any of you have any experience with this helmet? What's your opinion? Thanks in advance.

i have been a bell helmet guy for at least about 10 years. I had a 'ghalissio' and that took a solid whack and saved my nogging for another day. i replaced it with a sweep r and i am really happy with it. the only problem is the number of bugs that fly into the vents... seems like i get a lot of bugs through those vents but really speaks to the ventilation.

also, the rear of the helmet has those little delicate structures that i am a little worried about breaking off should the helmet get a a little battered in the race bag.

anyhow, a huge for the bell sweep r.

I started using a Bell Sweep about 3 months ago and really like it so far. It is very light and fits my head well. I feel like it fits on my head rather than just covering it like I found with some of the other high end helmets.

Most folks here probably haven't tried a Met brand helmet to make a comparison against (including me). Bell's are fine - make sure they fit your head well. They seem to fit some folks better than others. Also, there is no mesh to keep bugs out. They are pretty light weight and vent really well IMO.

I wear one. It's a good helmet. I find Bell Helmets to be very comfortable. I've also used a Furio, an Alchera, and a Ghisallo. all good. It's mostly a question of what's on sale and how much I feel like spending when I buy a helmet.

Been using it for about a year. I don't really notice it when I have it on, as opposed to my old helmet ($30 bell helmet) and it really fits well. Tension adjuster wheel in the back is handy and easy to use with 1 hand while riding. Also looks cool.

I've have a Sweep R for about a year and a half. Fits really good, it's almost time for a new one though. It's real banged up (rode with it down the east coast on a loaded tour last summer and the hard foam actually started to melt a little from the sunscreen I was using -- beware: the aerosol spray can sunscreen melts helmet foam, learned that the hard way).

Great helmets. My team has been using Bell Sweeps for the past 3 years. Nothing but praise for them.

Love mine. I can't compare it to Met, but I like it better than the Ghisallo it replaced (just a bit lighter and lower profile). And better than the Giro that replaced (I like the Bell tensioner better).

Light, well ventalated, good retension system, good looks.

The only problem I had was with one of the removable pads. It fell apart after about 10 rides but I had extras from other helmets o no biggie.

I have a Bell Sweep R and it is very comfortable, vents well and has a great retension system. The Sweep R fits my head better then the Atmos did plus I have a huge head and it still fits nice.

Good stuff and inexpensive compared to similar helmets. I liked my Atmos better, but I guess that'll teach me not to get taken out by squirrely Swamis riders.

I really like mine.
I don't think you'll find too much negative feedback on them, although, $130 retail is a little steep.
I found mine for $109.
Enjoy.

$130 is dirt cheap compared to some of those other ones...

I've been riding Bell helmets for at least 10 years now. My most recent Bell is the yellow Bell Sweep ... and it's great. No complaints at all. I've been using it for about 1.5 years so far.

That happened with my first Sweep. Contacted Bell, and they sent replacements immediately, no questions asked. The replacement pads held up fine.

Great helmet and great customer service.

Call them and they will ship you replacement pads for free. At least they did for me this Spring.
