LP - I need to pick a direction, and make some time. I want to weld in a new BB housing and shorten the head tube. Best to consider these mods seriously before getting out the saw and welder.

TFG: Is the bb housing cracked? If not, and you want to fit a more decent BB there are ways to sort it - from the expensive Sheldon Brown way of putting in a Shimano UN-72, and holding it in with Phil wood english threaded cups, to having the shell rethreaded from 24 to 26tpi at your local bikeshop.

Shortening the headtube is a good plan - really hard to find forks that have steerers long enough for a Twenty. My forks are cheapo recumbent stylee and my replacements when I get round to fitting them are from a trike! Don't talk about shortening it too loudly though - you might upset the odd purist!

I want to put in an American BB housing, so I can run tubular 3 piece BMX style cranks. I'd like a 7 speed internal hub as well. One of these days...

Little Brandon riding the "Powder Keg", summer 2006. Semi recumbent kustom. Bike features 18 speeds, horizontal seat post, home made springer forks, high back chopper motorcycle seat, vintage chopper motorcycle handlebars, Yellow powder coating, wooden keg in rear serves as the battery box.

Early mock up for a bike I'm currently working on, The bike will eventually get billet wheels with a Nexus 7 rear hub, front and rear disc brakes ( by way of specially machined adapter for the rear) custom paint, chrome, and girder forks instead of the springer you see.



This is a bike I made back in 1989 (Shawn V riding it), simple modified frame, homemade springer forks, 4 foot sissy bar, Sturmy Archer 3 speed.



I made this bike back in 1975, built around a 1966 Schwinn Stingray frame. Has extended krate forks, reupholstered MantaRay seat, Motomag wheels, custom paint in the style of the day.



Alternative bikes for people with alternative ways of thinking! Kustom bikes are becoming more popular throughout the world, and are a visual flag that pedal power is becoming a statement for strong alternative beliefs and ways of living! LOL, just enjoy, ride, make the world a better place with your leg power!

I don't like the look or usability of a shifter mounted below or behind a seat, and I've ridden bicycles where you have to reach between and below your pedalling legs to shift the gears, another thing I don't like! The position that the shifter is in now is similar to an old muscle bike, and does not interfere with your pedalling legs or with the handlebars. I prefer this classic bicycle positioning for looks and practical functioning.

I like the idea that kustom bicycles can develop their own unique styling cues that don't always ape the look of a chopper motorcycle. I don't like bicycles with fake gas tanks on them (generally) unless the tank is made to do something. Kustom bicycles should continue to develop as a unique and separate form of street art.

My new tallbike, huffy on top, sears on bottom, three speed internal hub mated to a cheapo shimano 8 speed shifter/brake combo, three cog drive system, extended fork steerer goes up through an old downtube from a huffy, topped off with some spraypaint. This thing rides like a dream.

I agree that there's nothing wrong with its current location, but if I ever get around to building mine, it will be down lower. With an 8 ball for the knob.

it took some getting used to at first, but it's actually a pretty stable machine, even at speed. even with the addition of a springer fork (i'll have new pics up soon), i can stand up and pump without a problem.
