Bar tape finishing...electrical tape?!

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Electrical tape, even cheaper tape, can work fine.

I don't use any tape. I end the bar tape on each side of the brake lever, under the hood. A dot of superglue holds each end in place. Very clean looking with no bulges.

Just general shots:

Because the two ends meet at the brake lever on opposite side, there is no need for a figure 8 or filler piece, so there is no hump behind the lever. The superglue provides enough stick to keep the ends in place, but little to no residue when you remove it. I usually taper the ends of the tape with a razor so they don't leave a bump under the hoods, which is fairly easy one the glue has set.

If you start wraping your bar tape from the top you won't need any electrical tape.

Damn thanks for all the great suggestions! Gonna try the 3M stuff first. And don't stretch too tight on the last wrap.

Don't stretch it too tight on any of the wraps. That tension is why it creeps.

I use grip tape. It's used on hockey sticks, tennis rackets and baseball bats. Good stuff, non slippery.

Kontact : hot glue just for both ends . Find a device to cold down fast the glue cause melting of the tape could happen .

This was the last tape I had. Current is done the same way, just a different color.

That's great except when your hands move down the bars at all it will lift up on the tape rather and slide down when you wrap from the bottom up.

Depends on the tape and how tight you wrap it. I haven't had any issues with the tape lifting up with the last several wraps I've used. The Supacaz tape pictured is pretty stiff, and it was fine for the life of it (about 5-6 months, maybe 2,500mi). Only replaced it because we adjusted my levers as part of a fitting and I didn't want to try to re-wrap with the same tape. I have Bontrager tape on it now, works fine, I was a big fan of Specialized Roubaix tape for a long time and that worked really well as well. I had some Fizik imitation leather tape that did roll back a little bit.

All in all, the biggest problem I've ever had with tape has been cheap tape sliding at the bends from the tops to the drops and that happened before I switched to top-to-bottom wrapping as well. I'm assuming I wasn't pulling the tape tight enough when I wrapped it or it was the adhesive tape on the back of it being crap.

Under the tape or over it? It sounds messy looking.
