Not a regular here, but wanted to share an interesting bit.
In "The North American Indian" by Edward Curtis, there is a photograph of a southwest woman polishing a pot.
The caption reads: The potter is polishing a vessel. The smooth pebbles used for this purpose are found in small heaps among or near deposits of fossil bones. They are the stomach pebbles of dinosaurs. Tewa women prize them highly, refuse to part with them, and foresee ill luck if one is lost.
That's all- carry on.

This promises to be a pleasant day in the saddle. Perhaps I'll do that climb I haven't done in at least 6 years. What's the point of having a 36x34 if you don't go up?

I reckon we have to live with an imperfect metric.

Just checked and today's ride put me just a hair over 2100 miles for the year... which also makes this my highest-mileage year ever. And it's early August.

This week will be the last with a crew here. We might even finish early. The little woman heads north, for a month, beginning Thursday morning. I will be alone for that month. I won't have a smoothie to make at 6:30, nor a crew to welcome at 8. Perhaps I can do some early morning riding.
I will use no power tools, except for my cordless drills and my bench grinder. I plan to build a set of rollers, to see if I can still ride them. I had a set many years ago. Back in my spandex days. They will come in handy, here and there, I hope. I'll have to buy some skateboard bearings and nothing else.

Now that’s a pissing contest I can beat you in, probably. I am at 5500 so far. Expect to end around 8-9K, depending on how nasty the weather gets in late fall/early winter.

B) I wouldn't trust the bearings anyway.
C) I've got a large selection of pvc scrap in various sizes, scrap lumber, allthread, and a set of holesaws
D) And time. Lots of free time

There are parrots in the hills all over this area. They squawk and chirp and imitate other birds. They are invasive and deprive other birds of food but nobody has figured out what to do about them yet. Some speculate they came from Busch Gardens when it closed years ago.
Going up the road last Saturday there were 6 or 8 of them on a small tree watching me.

However, based on what I'm reading, it looks like tri might be off next year as well. With Bar Mitts and maybe a gravel bike, I could really pound out some miles next year. We will see. Long-term, I'd like to get back to tri, but I'm not swimming in open water with a bunch of people or grabbing cups at aid stations until we have a known-good vaccine and I can be sure I'm protected while doing it.

Miles on my bike should count more since it is 16 years old and I'm still waiting for my CAAD to be repaired. I have been waiting since late May. SMH.
Oops, sorry I went off topic. It just helps talking about it.
