Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Saturday -- Winter came back. Winds gusting up to 100 km/h, temp at about 6C with a "feels like" temp of -10C, rain/sleet.

I was going to go for a run, but no.

We walked through some stores, then a bit later we rode our trainers ... Zwift!

I did the AYCE charity ride today. I did the 65mile option, 2200 feet of climbing. I left the start an hour early to beat the chaos of the mass start and also to beat the heat that arrived soon enough. 90's (F) with high humidity.

https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/2246816770

I averaged 15. 3 mph which is good for me.

So, 27 miles in NYC - besides Museum Mile, where else did you go?

For me, yesterday it was 54 miles, 2,900' with the gang up to Rockland Lake, much of it easy, but for a couple of stretches on the way back - Nyack to Piermont, and Rockleigh to Closter, we really hammered. Tons of fun. A couple of the usual suspects were absent, but there were a couple of guys who hadn't joined in a while who were very happy to be back. Tons of riders on the road, and some enthusiastic greetings along the way.

Today was just a perfunctory ride up to the Market - took most of the boring, sad way up, kind of on purpose. Exchanged greetings with an acquaintance as I arrived and he was on his way out, but other than that, didn't recognize anyone in the crowd, but being in slightly better spirits when I left, I took a more interesting route home. Got a shout of recognition on 9W, then headed down through Alpine, back up again through Rio Vista (which, all of a sudden this weekend seems to have gotten really popular with cyclists - I guess the secret's out) before heading back down again home - 23 miles, 1300', with 9 miles 400' outbound, 14 miles, 900' homeward. Nice cool morning, warmed up to mid 70's by the time I got home at 10.

Rode home from my son's soccer game by taking a 30 mile detour along the Sacramento River. Nice.

Sunday - 31.25 miles on the Giordana Polaris today. Still too much to do at the house recovering from the vacation to do a long ride today. Beautiful morning out though with perfect temps.

Feels good to be back on a bike.

Missed riding last weekend and week due to being up in Montana for a break. No bike rides but lot's of bears.

Saturday: Solo ride mostly in Minnesota. 57.3 miles, 2,260 feet, and average 17.6 MPH (pretty good for me, though this route only had two climbs.) I explored a bit along the Mississippi River, tried out a wicked steep descent, and rode one of my favorite roads - County Highway 7 through the town of Pickwick, MN. The goal is eventually to do a winding, hilly loop between La Crosse, WI and Winona, MN.

I'd originally planned to do a gravel event, but teenage drama kept me from being properly rested and hydrated for 100+ miles in 90F heat. I at least got up and let the organizers know what was up. Next time

Failure to launch, besides a few miles in town.

I seem to have sprained my middle finger, plus other excuses...

This morning there was a deer carcass in my back yard, & up to 8 turkey vultures at a time and a coyote ate it down

an impressive amount during the day.

Had to hang up the bike for the weekend. Instead was off in the Ocala Nat Forest for a long weekend. Ate food that was not good for me and napped in a camp chair. The most exercise I got was paddling around in the springs and walking in the woods for a couple of hours. Nice time though. My legs are going to be dying when I get back to it.

Good job, my best avg pace this year has only been 19.7 and for only 27 miles. I'm ashamed of myself....

Seriously, good job!

This was our ride on Sunday, in Morocco - Larache

It was supposed to be a chilled Z2 endurance ride...so much for that. lol

I give the camera to a friend around 3min mark, I'm the guy with the green/white jersey on the Sensa.
