Not sure what this is. Head tube and fork look like an International. Then there's what looks like maybe a kludge coupler on the top tube. And weird decals. Any ideas?

Thank you. I just might pick you up on that. I'm concerned about #Artclone 's comment at 43650.

I'm also not 100% sold on the bike. Can you guys chime in on its desirability?

Rare Suntour S1 Derailleurs

Something you don't see everyday. On eBay out of France, some NOS Suntour S1 Indexed rear derailleurs. If your into vintage experimentation this could be a fun project. These were designed to shift 7-speed Suntour rear freewheels or cassettes from the early 1990's time frame using an indexing cam that was located in the rear derailleur mechanics and not in the shifters (those can be friction). The really hard thing will be you have to devise a mount for your frames chain stay, as these things were mounted forward of the rear dropout on a special braze-on. Per the disraeligears website "Designed for commuting bikes, it all looked quite well thought out - but a SunTour system that demanded special unique frame fittings was never going to catch on a world in which Shimano was now totally dominant."

The price seems very reasonable if you've wanted to experiment with one or just have one for the display case (I'm tempted). Seller has a decent feedback record so it appears to be legit.

I saw this on a Schwinn a few weeks ago and was wondering if it was supposed to be like that. I didn't know they were a thing.

Just found the catalog picture. "...always indexed perfectly, never needs adjustment." Huh.

Thanks. I grabbed it. Strange it has Raleigh USA decals. One top tube cable stop is broken off. Chrome looks good and sporting a campagnolo triple. No dents that I could find. Chips and rust though.

Another NOS group, this one appears real. Shimano 600EX still in the box. Looks like shifters switched to DA, and it should have had a long-cage RD also. $375 in Huntsville, Tx.

63cm 3Rensho near Madison which needs some love (weird repaint - I think it probably needs to be red - and a mish mash of parts), but is priced right ($350):

Or if that's too big, here's a small RRB with Shimano Golden Arrow components right here in Evanston for less than three clams. Ad says 54cm, but that's a mighty short head tube. This is one of the Ron Boi-designed/Taiwan-built frames.

Edit: I recall Ron telling me these frames were designed to accept either 700C or 27-inch wheels, so if the 27-inchers aren't to your liking, you should be able to switch to 700C easily enough.

https://chicago.craigslist.org/nch/b...373966138.html

(Seems a little odd that the 63cm 3Rensho has two brake housing thingies, while the 54cm RRB has three.)

Looks 54cm (21.25") to me (C-T) as that's what I ride.

Schwinn Prelude - $150 (Southern Shores)

"Schwinn Prelude. Spent hundreds on parts. Great deal! $150 or make an offer. Owner anxious to sell."

https://outerbanks.craigslist.org/bi...338767864.html

(Not sure where the owner spent hundreds on parts, and really rusty on close examination of the photographs, so not really priced right as it sits, but the owner is anxious to sell?)

I fix my eyes on the head tube, and follow an imaginary line it describes. The fork should hew that line, and not fall behind. Then I check the proximity of the wheel to the downtube. Then I examine the top and down tubes for evidence of stress.

And there can be cases where the fork is not bent but the closeness of front wheel to the down tube indicates that the top and down tubes are likely buckled from an impact. Sometimes the fork bends, sometimes the frame does, sometimes both do. Takes a practiced eye and a decent photo in profile. Hard to tell on the little orange bike, easier on the green one.

From our local CL. Fork is not bent on this one, but the frame is.

Couldn't Resist...

Bagged this one today: 1984 Raleigh Wyoming

Raleigh Road Bike 23" frame touring set up 12 speed lightwieght - $75 (Stillwater)

https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/w...340882740.html

It's been up for almost a month at this price, and I saw another go locally for twice that. I've always wanted a Portage, but never found one I could afford - so now I'm going to build my own. Sorta. The frame is the same tubing - 555T DB chrome-moly - but without the braze-ons for canti brakes. Fork is hi-ten rather than chromo, but that's alright.

Probably go 700c x 35 on the wheels/tires, with V.O. faceted fenders. The frame is tall for me, so I can go with my low saddle/high handlebar with the upside-down Northroads style.

A note about the seller: TALL! Look at that seatpost and stem... both waaayyyy past the limit line. No wonder he wanted to get rid of it. This one is going to be very nice come Spring...

I used to own this very frame. Years and years later and it's still waiting for some decent clothes...
