McKenzie Pass with @Andy_K, @aggiegrads and aggiegrads son. A few miles out of town the road is closed to all except bikes this time of year.

Starting out on a "false level" - we're actually climbing a 2-3% grade at this point:

It only looks like this in a few sections, but it's an impressive backdrop for pictures:

Sunny at the start, heading west and climbing from Sisters it got overcast, darker, windier, and colder.

Proof we made it.

BIKEMIG you mentioned riding across the country reminded my my friend Roy Traderhorn as a kid rode from Los Angeles to Binghamton NY in 1956 or 57 . We were best friends for our growing up years in Binghamton and rode bikes everywhere. He just showed up at our door one day that summer and stayed with family and us for a month. He flew back to LA but did it again two years later. I have no ides what kind of bike he was on but he mentioned he was on a LA bike club team.

Nice 40 mile ride along the Bay Area Peninsula on Saturday. 1961 Rene Herse shown near Crystal Springs, a scenic reservoir which holds water coming all the way from the Sierras.

It took me a few rides to get the old five speed Cyclo derailleur gear system dialed in. I played with different freewheels, had to do some cleaning and lubrication, and had to get used to pulling the continuous-cable shift lever towards me when shifting to smaller freewheel cogs. But have to say I'm now very impressed with this classic derailleur system (earliest versions introduced in the 1920s!). The five-speed Cyclo version shifts very consistently and reliably over a 14-17-20-25-30 tooth freewheel, and gives a wide gear capacity that has made this old bike very versatile and fun even on long hilly rides.

Took a trip to Carr Pond in Rhode Island today. The Midwesterner in me is very confused that New Englanders seem to have an aversion to the word lake. Either way, it was absolutely beautiful!

Went for a real quick spin to the local park and back, before the temps soar to 94° in the shade....

7.50 miles in 30:13 including some short, but nasty hills, but like the "little engine that could" I had no trouble making it up them.

Another ride on the Frejus this morning, longer, down to Hyde Park, looking forward to coffee and a croissant at Bonjour Cafe. Alas, they were closed for Memorial Day:

Stopped at Promontory Point for an obligatory look at the downtown skyline:

Thinking my rear wheel had slipped, I stopped at the stone steps by McCormick Place to adjust it. Imagine my surprise at seeing a $10 bill on the ground.

A friend and I did 42 city miles yesterday, very different from the usual miles...

Got out for some handful of easy miles today. It feels like we jumped into summer after all of the recent rain.

Went out for a ride with my 13-year-old daughter yesterday. I'm so proud of her. She knocked off 27 miles through the hills of Columbia County New York without a problem. She has a few different bikes at her disposal, but even though the frame is touch large for her, she always prefers to ride the old Daimler.

Nice ! Rode with my 2 daughters too but they didn't start out as early as yours. Our Memorial w/e trip was to an island off Southport, NC (Bald Head Island) that is closed to cars and is accessed by ferry. They allow golf carts so that's all you have to share the paved paths with. A nice day of riding, eating well and beaching it. My oldest is heading for the PNW next week so we probably won't be riding together for a while 2 Loti & an Ochsner - my wife took the rented cruiser.

Oof, I have been posting ride pics in the everyday pics thread.... forgot all about this one. These pictures are from last week, on vacation on Hilton Head Island.

It's so good to see our kids in these pictures. Love of cycling really needs to be passed onto future generations. It's so worrying that hardly a single one of my daughter's friends even knows how to ride a bike. Their parents actually look at me like I'm crazy, when they find out that my daughter and I actually go out rode riding, and we live in the country.

A muddier-than-expected gravel path ride on Schwinderella today. Nice and much cooler in the woods!

Last time I rode this the fixed BB cup decided to start unthreading itself.

Ever since I've been a little apprehensive about riding it, but it looks like a liberal application of blue loctite and a proper torquing did it's job. For 15 miles at least

I love these lugs.

Nice Moto there. I have the same problem with Italian BBs. Had a Bianchi once that I could never get the fixed cup tight enough to hold. Eventually traded with frankthewelder for my Roberts frameset.

Familiar roads may not be as stimulating, but lend themselves to more miles, paved and hardpack.

34 mile Three Harbors club ride, from Ventura Mission to Ventura Harbor, Channel Islands Harbor, and Port Hueneme Lighthouse, on my '73 Super Course.

1st stop, Park Service, Channel Islands.

Hueneme Lighthouse.

Raleigh on a coffee break, sorry, non-drive side.

Not vintage, but a cool hand painted Land Shark.

Definitely vintage, '63 Split Window Vette sighting.

First thought.... skipping to a couple of spots.... a person that pumps those tires hard. assuming a decent camera mount.

I found the precaution of a private survey team on such a lightly traveled trail to be humorous.

Just a nice day to roll miles.

Anyone know the ideal angle of a steel framed latticed train bridge?

A favorite favorite, but the bars should be 38s.

Thanks! It is a very smooth ride, even with cheap Nashbar tires on it. Hopefully over the summer I can get a proper French crankset and brakeset on it, it just looks a little off with 1980s Japanese components. I am quite impressed with the Huret derailleurs, the long lever throw takes a bit of getting used to but it seems to shift really well.

Some nicer tires would turn it into an absolute magic carpet I think.

Speaking of magic carpets, I took the Trek 710 out for a short ride tonight around sunset. The 650b x 38 Rene Herse tires are so plush and comfortable when combined with a big 531db frameset.

Small storm cells to the south and a field of what looks like a Lupine bloom made for a lovely sight, and I played a little game of reverse Frogger having to avoid this little one in the road.
